RIP 15" btl

This is the history of the sub:

Zeusilicious bought the BTL motor, and reconed it with a brand new recone from FI. He hardly used it, not sure how long it was, most likely on his Memphis 4kw, then he set it aside and was selling it on his big 15 sale. I bought it from hi around ~mid to late july. I used it on a pca2000d at 1 ohm. and a ab 120.1 at 0.5 ohm, but gains set conservativly for daily. Then i sold it to you. And you destroyed our baby =(. no im just kidding, its just bad luck man. Let me know if i can help any. PM with any regards you have, i will be more then obliged to help.

you did your part bro, no need to offer anymore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. BTW as anyone can see hazardous0388 is a very good seller and keeps up with concerns of mine, even though the problem has nothing to do with him.

in the process of contacting FI right now. going to buy some tinsels and get to working. will have brand new tinsels all the way around too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

gonna use this link that a fine member of SSA linked me to

whats done is done bro, but what your doing shows a great deal about the kind of seller you are //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

**** Man, sorry to hear about the leads. I think a tutorial is a great idea given the recent tinsel problems that seem to be popping up on here. Good luck man. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Those leads have been hot before, very hot. Burn marks in the pad and on the spider are indicative of this. Still should not have snapped like that unless it was too short -- as this is a re-cone job perhaps the person doing the work accidentally clipped that lead slightly too short?

Keep in mind the BTL coil will likely handle more power for longer than the leads will -- the coil has great cooling, the leads don't.

Me = never had any lead issues from any "Scott Made" woofer.

On the power issues... I can get tinsel leads hotter, faster on my test bench running an amp at 1/2 ohm than at 2 ohms on the same metered power. Same reason you can run 1200 watts in a home on a 12 awg wire, but not in a car. In home it's 10 amps @ 120 volts, in a car... with 12 volts... it's 100 amps. Drop the amps down and current goes up and voltage goes down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yea the burn marks on the spider and felt pads were there when i got the driver. dont know if i mentioned it but the leads have actually ripped through the first spider.

it was ran in series at 2 ohms on the kicker. i know it had a memphis 4kw on it for sometime. one more thing, is it possible for the lead to burn up on the inside only? it almost looks as if the inside of the lead is quite a bit darker than the outside section.

thanks for the info sundownz. always nice to hear more technical knowledge from someone who knows the ins and outs
