rewind alternator??

OK, I went into my mechanics today becuase I have to get an oil seal replaced on my car, and I asked about an alt rewind.....he said that he has never heard of it and that a bigger and better battery is my best bet. This guy has been around a long time and knows what he is talking about so can someone here help me out as to why he hasn't heard of this....can you really rewind your alt....and if so where do you get it done at?

well i've never had it done but if u have maybe an alt store around then take it there. i'd ask like napa and stuff. but u can rewind ur alt

how high can you rewind a typical alt to? 100amps, more? just curious I would like to know. Thanks for your help

It actually all depends on your alternator, look in the phone book for an alternator-starter store. We went for a 95 pathfinder with a 75 stockl amp, and the guy said he could do up to 130ish.

rewinding the alt is the best way to go right, I'm not finding out information in vain am I? Again,I appreciate the help

Probably just as cheap and a world better performance on a new high output one. Look at http://www.4alterstart.com, if they dont have one listed for your spec. car/truck they can make one.

how much do you think it would run to get an alt installed? I have no idea how to do it and I would never try. Also...how much does it run to get an alt rewound? thanks for any information

I think it is like a dollar a amp or something and installing a alternator is so easy and it comes with a manual so you could do it yourself in like 30 minutes.

We charge 50 dollars assuming there is no major re-engineering involved.

Probably 100-150 depending on who you go to and how much they know. Mos stock alts only gain minimal output increase when rewound. Much better off buying a new one.

I drive a 95 camry with an 80amp stock alt....i am thinking about just running my setup on this, but would like to have slightly more output. How much do you think I would gain getting it rewound, could I get over 100 amps? and to raise it that high how much would it cost. Thank you

probably could get 100 out of it, but for the money alterstart has a new 150 amp alt for 200 bucks.
