Reusing Stock Battery Terminals

even if they are 5/16" marine terminals its only 1/16" bigger u r fine with 3/8"
That's what I was thinking...gotta love making common denominators //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I would just go ahead and get a dual terminal battery, leave your factory shit alone and use the extra set of terminals for all the stuff you add, thats what I do
Not upgrading the batt until next month. Besides, I don't think the Batcap2000 I'm upgrading to even has a second set.

Hmmm....It seems like I keep getting conflicting info. A few of you guys say to get 3/8 and someone says those are way too big....I already ordered the 3/8" ones based on the info I got earlier. Am I going to be ok with those? They shipped out today....

You were asking if the ring terminals were the right size to fit snug around the 2 bolts and nuts where the clamp is right? As i said before, those bolts are 1/4 inch on the clamp style terminal.

The stud on the wing nut terminal is 5/16. 3/8 will work but technically its not the proper size and youll need washers to prevent shearing it, theres very little copper left around the edge of those.

The 3/8 bolt people are referring to is the bolt that clamps the actual terminal to the batt, the horizontal one with the square end. 3/8 by 16 is right. Thats also the thread size and pitch for side post batteries. I dont see anything wrong with using the ring terminals there if thats what you were aiming for, but from what i read you were going to use the 2 bolts or 1 bolt on the end of the terminals to secure them.

Using ring terminals on the horizontal bolt doesnt provide the best connection IMO, and you have to have the ring terminal pointing in the opposite direction of the other wire or it wont clear the round part of the terminal.

You most likely ordered ones like these, right? If theyre similar to the autozone and walmart style copper ones, they have hardly any meat to the contact surface where the eyes drilled at, but since theyre 1/0 size then they may be different. Either way youll need washers, preferably copper ones to help with current transfer.

Thanks for the replies guys. This photo really helps...but I think I'll have a total of Three 1/0 gauge connections made to the Neg. battery terminal that's why I was leaning towards the wing nut style terminal. What size ring terminal is needed to convert the stock cabling to a ring terminal style connection?

Ok...I may do that then. I say three connections because of the big 3 upgrade...and running power to amps. I didn't know it could fit more than one on each side. I ordered my copper lugs already...I got 1/0 gauge ones that have a 3/8" eyelet...is that too big to use the type of batt terminal that you have? I thought I read earlier in the thread that someone said that stud/bolt was only 1/4" thick...even if it is...then a 3/8" eyelet is only 1/8" bigger anyway...Do you know if I'd need a washer, or would it be ok just to tighten the bolt on top of my copper lugs?

I bought the wing nut stle marine terminals today and a pair of 2 gauge copper lugs to replace the stock ones. How hard is this to do? After looking at it today it seems like soldering this stuff on the car is going to be kind of hard to do....anyone do it, or better yet have pics?
