results of power wire being to small?

Hey what will happen if your power wire is to small?

Damaged amps?

Hot wires?

or just not full output?

Im pretty sure i needed to upgrade i while ago..

right now Im running an AP1000(weak sauce) and a hifonice2006d (not weak sauce)

[i also have a 3fard cap on 4awg hooked up]

altogether they should be pulling around 2000-2300 watts.

Im only running 4awg wire for power...

the system seems fine and plays loud...

what improvement can i see if i run 0awg power wire?

I think the amps just turn themselves off, or if the wire is fused (as it should be) the fuse will burn up. It's there to prevent wire assplosion.

You have higher voltage drops, so you might not be getting the power out of those amps you think you are...

word. your amplifier will be operating at lower voltages, possibly even below 12 depending on your listening habits, not good for your amp's health.

how long of a run of 0 gauge are you looking for?

well i have my gain turned up pretty high on my hifonics....

its hooked up to a AQHD315 at 1ohm so it should be giving out around 2000watts rms

inside im only running 2x 6.5 type r components which are only taking about 90 each.

i can keep turning the system up and it just keeps going, although on one song, there was sign of music cutting out

{maybe from ipod not taking the bass to well?}

the fuse is 150 if im not mistaken and seems to run fine.

I was planning on upgrading but i dont want to blow 90$ on upgrading wiring if i dont have to.

my capacitor has a volatage meter on it and it seems to always stay above 13 volts...

surprisingly my older amp (ap2000)

was a class a/b so i sucked volts like a mofo, i have less dimming with my new amp at 2x the power

i might have to take my multimeter straight up to the amp leads and see what its hitting

looking for over 15 ft of 0 awg... ill also need some for ground to.

anybody have any 2awg or a good place to get some?

unless the wire is laced with gold and diamonds I don't think you have to spend 90 bux...spend like 20-25 and get a run of 1/0 gauge...done

possibly have to get things like new battery terminals (if the old ones can't handle a 1/0 gauge wire), some ring terminals, or a new distro block but if you go over 40 bux your doing something wrong.

Makes sure your fuse isnt that big either. For temp, dummy me ran 4ga to 8ga to a rockford punch801s.

Never pulled my 200a fuse. Fried my wire and the power & ground terminals to my amp.

I'm lucky my car didn't blow up in a firey blaze.

where would you get 15+3 ft of 0awg for 20$?

aighty when i said 100 i didnt mean 100

when i total led up my stuff it came closer to 75

i needed to grab some extra 4gauge..

my amp will take 2 gauge input but i cant find any...

may look ghetto but anything wrong with just trying to jam 2x 4awg wires into the amp?

as far as prices for smaller stuff goes, just look on the forum...people list stuff for pretty cheap. I found a 1/0 gauge ANL fuse holder for only 10 bux shipped. Just keep an eye out. And I didn't know you needed so much wire (didn't know the car it was going in). So yeah if you buy new from Knu it'll cost about 30 plus shipping. Or you might be able to find it a lil cheaper maybe 30 or 25 shipped from someone on the forum. Search around then post a WTB thread.
