RE's new packaging

The shop charges $75/hr if I remember right, and they round up.

They charge you $80 in materials for a basic small sealed box. That is assumeing they dont just throw a premade box in there and charge you 2hrs labor + the cost of the box.

I will agree, 75 seems rather high, but that all depends on the quality of the shops work and the local economy. Alot of autodealerships and repair shops charge that. If the shop has good technicians 75 dollars could be quite reasonable. A good shop that actually tries hard and does good work should be paid well for it. Especially since most sales are lost to the net or below MSRP in the shop because of the net..

I can understand high hourly costs...just not for the work they do. They wont even do fiberglass work. Basic boxes pre programmed into their $2000 automated saw or prefabs made out of 5/8 MDF.

Sometimes that is all people want. Depending on the market glass work may not be profitable(people may not want to pay waht the shop needs to charge for glass). Prefabs are fine for most people . People only have so much money they want to spend, should a shop deny them subbass because they dont want or cannot afford a custom enclosure? They will go somewere else to get it, maybe a worse shop if a shop refuses top sell them a prefab. I have always believed if someone wants a prefab it is our job to make it the best we can with what the customer gives us to worlk with. Shops are not the ultimate evil because they use prefabs and 5/8 mdf.

One more thing, before it is brought up. We sell our prefab dual 12 vented boxes for 60. A good covered custom box cannot be built and sold for that, considering time and materials. If you are selling custom for that or not much more you are losing money.

Their prefabs cost what I cost to build a custom enclosure //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm all for prefabs if you are broke...just not at their cost. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I just read this entire thread and I'm not surprised with where this thread has gone considering CB popped in. Apparently he hasn't grown up since my first experience with him over on Automotive Forums. As a person who intends to open an audio shop I can sort of see eye to eye with 12r on a lot of his points. You can't only sell stuff you like because you like it. You have to cater to a broad group of people. As far as RE is concerned I own two SX 15s and I paid 480 for the pair. I don't care what anyone says that is well worth it. I think 480 each would have been worth it. Thats just my $.02.

I helped you on alot of your retarded questions that you asked on AF. YOU came on asking things that other people would laugh at you and simply point you to BCAE1.com and you would still be confused.

You have the nerve to say I haven't grown up?

You said you had the money in hand about 30 times to buy so and so system and we finally got to the point we would call BS untill you showed us then you disappeared.

You, sir, need to STFU.

Seriously?

I've been debating with a 17 year old? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
Age doesnt have a WHOLE lot to do with knowledge. My monthly ritual is to go in an school the new salesmanager at the local audio shop.

Its almost like going into radio shack and asking for flux capasitors. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Actually it does, and with age... comes EXPERIENCE.

That is what you lack.

And you're still a dummy.
