replacing speakers with 8 ohm in a 2 way component set

i have a set of alpine components with crossover

they are 4 ohm

according to a calculator on the12volt.com:

when i hook up 2 speakers 4 ohm each to the crossover(woofer and tweeter)

the crossover point would be around 8500hz

since most of the crossovers use the 4.75mf capacitor.

so if i hook up an 8 ohm woofer and an 8 ohm mid given same crossover specs

the crossover point would drop to 4200.

am i correct?

i also have another pair of infinity crossovers

can someone decypher it for me?

it has

1 capacitor

4.75mf

3 resistors

5w1Ωj 5w2Ωj 5w3Ωj

2 coils

0.4mh 0.2mh

btw, how are typical car components set up?

theres some pages saying that they use a hybrid 1st/2nd order crossover

and 4 ohm woofer with 8 ohm tweeter.

is that a fact?

lol how would you blow your speakers? your fine, hook them up.

if the crossover point for mids is too low it will blow them up.

and if the crossover point for woofer is too high it will sound like sht.

crossovers are from alpine sps-171a

woofers are stryke audio 7" 8ohm

mids are factory BMW 8ohm

tweets are infinity emit( which probably will be replaced because they re damaged (im not worried about tweets for now)

why would you leave factor midbass? i understand is a bmw but even then its nothing compare to a cheap set of midbass.

and so what is you quesiton that youre worried about. hook the midbass to the crossovers and tweeters and go. ive never heard of any problems with ohmage befor.

look man no offence but u dont seem to know what im asking.

im not asking you to tell me how i can replace something.

this is what i got and i want to make it work. im asking a specific question

its not a bmw btw its 2 door integra with mids mounted in place of tweeters ( bmw mids are because they are only ones that fit without making custom pods)

im asking if the typical 2 way component setup uses an 8 ohm tweeter or 4 ohm tweeter

Depends on the design of the crossover in the system itself. there are a few floating around in some vehicles that are 6 ohm. According to the calculator your xover point in your first post is correct. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But your xover point being to low won't blow anything up persay. You just run the risk of bottoming out the mids. That can still be a problem with those alpine or infinity crossovers. THey aren't band pass, they are simple two way crossover. i know my infinity and most other 2 way passives are corssed at 3.5khz. the hertz hsk is 3.2khz iirc. I'm sure it might change the slope maybe not enough to be audible.
