replacing cone/surround on a sub....

coils/suspension are fine so I'm thinking of dremeling the cones out and putting in new ones. subs are modular storms. so 3" coil with tall former and 10" spiders, very hard to find complete parts to recone them completely and cones are only like $10ea iirc. so I'm gonna attempt to chop the cones and put in new ones. pix later as I didn't even order the parts. basically started the thread to get peoples take on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif all that will be wasted is the cones and parts that I haven't used since 05 anyway if I screw it up.. so no big there. I'd likely screw up removing the old parts since gluing new parts on are gonna be barely more difficult than putting it on new parts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif subs are neo storm X2s cones are all shattered so I'm thinking I'll just replace the cones and see if they're other parts are still good enough shape to run for a while //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif since it's always worthless without pix, here's a vid I made of the last one before I shattered it's cone I ran them each on an autotek mm4000.1 bridged 1ohm. 3.5 cubes per sub all sides dual 3/4" mdf aeroports tuned 30ish iirc did the build in 05 so don't remember tuning but it came out lower than I intended. I always make them longer so as to tune lower if I HAVE to be off by something //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

you can see the creases where they're internally cracked. sound like shattered glass if you push on them from the back...

will likely be getting wide roll surround non pressed paper cones and carbon fiber dustcaps but we'll see what I end up getting.. I figure if I gotta pay shipping I may as well order both. I will definitely only do one at 1st to try out. and if it works I have a couple boxes to test it in with a pair of xp1400ds for power. one box is 5cube @28hz after displacments probably a little larger/lower since this is smaller than the 4hp/tipro I have in it currently. and a DD spec box 4.75@40hz with 73ish inches of port... all dimensions the same just changed the port... it's just for fun. I may recone my HD3s as 15"s and do some drop in testing with them. I really want to recone them as 12"s tho, only because I can use the same outter dimensions and do a dual 6" psp ported box an I have the ports already so just gotta build the box and recone the subs. only reason I've been putting off the recones is because I'm still undecided on if I want 12"s or 15"s //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

if insurance covers it I'll of lost nothing but my money momentarily. still gotta see how it pans out. but in the meantime I have a few projects to work on. clearly I have alot of subs and it was just another toy so it's not a huge deal... 4hp in my wife's car atm off the pair of xp1400ds strapped .7ohms last time I meterd it did a 144.7@32hz dash car closed new TL... 44.1 on music peaking 32hz dash car closed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif so not bad low bass for a trunk car and no deadening anywhere but the tire well.. clearly need to work on the roof flexing issues...
