Replacement for Skar vvx 12's?

Right now I have two Skar vvx 12's in my Tahoe. They are in a 4.0 cft box tuned at 35hz. It was made by Brian at Starr Mountain Sound. Here's the deal. I am not happy with the sound, and I am looking for an alternative. I would really like to keep the box, as it is a work of art. The subs are very peaky. It does sound great on rap. Problem is, I'm not really a rap fan. I know that the response of the subs is in large part due to the box. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a pair of 12's that would sound great in this size box. They would be powered by my Sundown 1500. Budget is not a huge concern. I guess I'm looking for a flatter response. I originally thought about Sundowns, but I doubt there is going to be much difference in performance. so your looking for sound quality and larger range of frequencies instead of overall loudness peaks? What frequency do you think its peaking at? 40 hz? 50? 60?

Probably best to change box not sub

Yes. That is what I'm looking for. My guess is it is peaking around 45 to 50 and dropping fairly hard around 70 to 80.

Yeah. I realize its probably the box. Any suggestions on box size and tuning for a smoother/flatter response?

I listen to any type of rock. Really any type of music with real musicians. I don't know if that means I should tune higher or lower. I definitely like impact from the kick, although I realize that has a lot to do with mid bass.
