remote wire to amp, would it work??

Alright so the last thing I need to do for my amp installation is to run my remote turn on wire, and I was about to order some fuse taps to do this (as i'm using my factory head unit with a LOC and do not have any remote turn on outs at the back) but I thought of something. Call me lazy, but would it work if I took an old cigarette lighter adapter (for a car 12v power socket), i.e. an old cell phone car charger, cut off the pin that is supposed to go into the cell phone, connect (splice) this wire to my remote turn on wire, tape it up, plug it into a 12v socket in my car, and then run it under my carpet or something to my amp? This seemed theoretically like it would work until I found a better solution (although a complete waste of a socket), but I wasn't sure if this would feed too much power through the remote wire to my amp or not:eyebrow: ..... any ideas?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Not always.

Not all of those adaptor will output 12V DC. Some will knock it down to, say, 9V DC. Some will knock the voltage down to 5V DC. Etc Etc.

Just because they are plugged into 12V DC does not mean they'll output 12V DC.

i`d suggest just finding a fuse that gets power with the ignition on. the radio fuse should work just fine for this.
right, thats what im going to do for as a permanent solution after i get some fuse taps online, but just wanted to do this temporarily.

do i risk harming my amp by trying this, or is the worst thing that can happen is that it simply wont work?

i`ve ran straight off the battery to the remote with a toggle to turn the amp on and off before. as long as you`re not over 12V you should be fine.

oh yea, to run off the radio fuse just wrap the wire around the fuse and plug it back in. as long as the aire isn`t to thick

oh wow didnt know it was that easy, thought i needed fuse taps, ill try that since the remote wire is pretty thin. good to know i can do it through the cigarette ligher too thought

many thanks for the help

back to the cigarette lighter thing, when i cut the cell phone adapter, there are two wires, one silver one with a blue stripe (this is the one that goes to the tip of the cigarette lighter adapter), and one copper wire (split and going to the sides inside the cigaretter lighter adapter). which one should i connect to my remote turn on wire, and what should i do with the other one?

thanks in advance for the help

First thing I would do is grab a DMM and figure out if any of the wires output 12V DC. If they don't, then that's as far as you need to go, because it ain't going to work.

As to risking damage.....it more than likely simply won't turn on the amplifier.
