remote wire problem

friend of mine had me install his system for him, but he wanted to keep his stock deck so he could play his ipod. I got the converter hooked up so the rcas are connected. Now all i need is to hook up the remote wire. Problem is, since there isnt a wire harness, i dont know which wire is the remote wire. Im going to have to cut the wire to connect it since they are all connected into the little clip or w/e that pluggs into the HU. I really dont want to cut every wire and test it to find out which one it is. I looked all over, and the wires are not labeled, and there is nothing in the manual. Anyone have an idea on how to figure this out?

lol, i was just reading and i think i know how, but i dont know how to do it. Some one said to run it to a fuse, like the ignition start. I can do that, but how do u wire something to a fuse?

If your really brave you can just tap your ignition wire so that the amp come on when the key is turned. Not somthing I would ever want to attempt.

just find any ol accessory wire. look around your fuse box and probe various wires with your DMM; find one that reads 0 volts without the keys in the ignition, and ~12v with the keys turn to the on/accessory position. tap into that wire, and you have your source input.

basically any wire will work that gets 12v power whenever the radio turns on.

what kinda car? i may be able to pinpoint you to a wire if you can't find one, or don't have a DMM (DOH). send it to me in PM, as i doubt i'll check this thread again.

Bit much for a remote turn on since most h/u's do like 300mA max.

but he's not running his remote turn on from a h/u; he's running it off of what is probably gonna be a 18-22 ga wire somewhere in the kickpanel/fusebox. so he shoudl fuse 5a/7.5. fuse for the capacity of the wire ;-)
