Remote? Wattage?

How many amps can you hook up to a HU without having to resort to a relay? I hear that the remote outlet can't handle but so much on its own.....and what's the max wattage you recommend on a single battery? Before having to install a 2nd??

I have always ran a relay. there are no extra wires to run, seeing as you can just use constant 12v and ground off the amp inputs.
