Remote turn on

im new to this forum but i had an idea. i want to have a switch from my ashtry that could turn on the amps. thinking about crimping the cigarette plug for the 12v and wire back a single wire for the amps. just wondering if anybody had done this and if you guys had id like to see some pics. the reason why i want to do this is because when im just sitting in the car i want to listen to music without having my amps drain the battery. right now im using the signal sensing off a 500/1.

I run a toggle off the battery for my rear coax amp, so yes it'll work just fine. But how will you listen if the amps are off? Or do you just mean the sub amp?

Yea just the sub amps all my components are stock. I was just worried if ill **** up my cigarette plug voltage. But i guess the remote turn on wont take that much power. Where did you mount that switch at? Im trying to keep the interior as stock as i can, i drive a X5 just dont want to **** up the look.

Did mine in the trim plate that surrounds the radio/heater controls, but you could put it anywhere. And correct it's very low voltage, so you can tap into any 12v source.

I'd probably forget to turn it off when I parked and it would drain my battery that way. Are you wanting the amp to work with the car off?

yea thats what i was thinking because some cars the cigarette plugs wont turn on without the key. i just dont want to slap when im waiting in the car

I use a toggle switch with an LED in the end, so pretty hard to forget with the blue light shining...

And it won't drain your battery if the amp is powered up, but not playing....

Well eventually it would, but since it's not putting out power to the speakers it's drawing very little current just sitting....

Not true, it will still drain your battery if left on long enough. The amp just being on is drawing about 0.5A (see manual - it will be current draw - idle). If you left your amp on over two days with the car sitting, the battery would be dead. Happened to me in high school (moons ago) I left the amp on over night dorve to school, left the amp on again came out and it was dead (about 16 hours of being left on) luckily I drove a stick shift and just needed to find a hill to get going.

Also if you connecting multiple amps off a low current circuit you might want to consider adding a relay. I'd recommend this for installs with 3 or more amps
