Remote Turn On wired to Positive Speaker wire

I've spent most of tonight searching for this info, and came close to finding it here but wasn't completely satisfied with what I found. So here's my scenario.

I installed a few year old Sony amp which as far as I can tell does not have a low voltage remote turn on feature. The instructions call for 12v. However, as I was being lazy and I read somewhere else about using the positive wire from one of the speakers coming out of the HU, I decided to try this. I tapped into the speaker wires already as I am using the stock HU, and ran those to the high level input on my amp. I then ran about a 12" bit of wire from the positive lead of one of the speaker inputs (nearest to the amp) to the remote turn on on the amp. I metered the wire and it gives 0v with the car off, and 6v with the key at ACC (I didn't meter it with the car running). My amp turns on, I don't hear any pops, no noise from the sub, no noise from the speakers...it seems to work fine. But there was concern with this method of wiring on another forum, and as I said in all my searching I haven't found a concise answer to my scenario.

Do you guys think my setup is ok? Is it possible to cause any damage or feedback to the rest of the system using this method? The only downside I see (at this point!) to this method is that the amp is on even if the HU is off, which in my case isn't a problem as the HU is on 99.9% of the time I am in the car. if it doesnt have a rem then it probably turns on off of the

,RCA's or high lever inputs, when it gets a signal it will cut on.

take whatever u have off and just hook it up normally. and it shold work.

Thanks for the reply. I actually did remove the REM wire and the amp wouldn't turn on with the ACC or head unit. Putting the REM wire back on and it works as expected. I think unless I hear otherwise from some one or notice any problems I am going to leave it like it is.
