Remote turn on wire from HU. How much can it handle?

Ok I'm planning on having 2 Amps. A CarPC, And various other electronics in my car. Can I splice into the wire and go everywhere with it?

I know its not supplying alot of current. But i'll need it for those 2 amps, the car pc and at least one relay. Maybe two. Think its safe? Or should I look for another switched power source(Ciggarette lighter is switched)

it's fine.

what are the relays for, tho?

And use the switched power on your car's fusebox to turn on your pc, not your headunit, just because that doesn't make any sense. Better yet, unswitched power to the pc, switched ignition power to the monitor.

I used mine for 2 amps and a relay no prob

PC's use alot more power than you think...

that said I beleive the power supplies are like amps, +12v and REM... so it's hooked to the batt and the remote turnoff wires sends the turn-on and shut-down signal

id put a fuse on the remote wire, better safe then sorry.

Thats a lot of draw for that little wire, id look into a relay to supply the power.

I've looked around at this and it seems that 2 amps is the max u should be using that one wire on; so this is quite a bit more.

Why would you do amps AND relays? Just do one relay andhave it switch everything. If you need more current than one relay can provide (I hope not with 30A on a relay) use the first relay to switch on some stuff and daisychan another relay. The HU rem wire should be switching as little as possible. If you are going to bother with relays, go all the way with relays.

Relay? Well im putting in a power invertor that I want on when the car is on only.

The PC will have a 4ga or 8ga dedicated connection off the power distribution fuse block.

The power inverter will also have it.

I'm also thinking of adding a switched 12power outlet as well. The last relay might be for a Custom Alarm system.

Really don't know how its all going to be wired yet. don't know how carpc's handle the remote on issue yet.

Eventually the entire HU will be taken out and I'll either replace it with another or Fully integrate the PC into the dash. Again I'll tackle those issues later.

I'm on medication right now so i'm alittle fuzzy on what i'm talking about/need it for. Just know power inverter is a must and I dont want it on while the car is off.

edit : although the remote turn-on lead form the HU is the easiest for me to get too (because the harness runs into the trunk and is easily accessible under the rear seat.)

I was thinking of getting an alternate 12v switched source that way the radio isnt the thing thats turning everything on. As it stands I dont know what happens when I turn my radio off. Does the amp kick off? IF so that would be bad for future projects. I understand it as once a device senses power on the remote lead wire, it kicks on. After that it doesnt turn off unless explicitly told to go off or the power is cut.

Then again I don't know. more thoughts on this when im not on pills

bottom line is don't use the remote wire for all those purposes or your car will burn down.

I would feed the remote to a 30A relay, then run your crap of of that.
I just wouldn't feel good about drawing very much at all off the remote.

I'll do that. 10-30a Relay

****it that means i need to buy more crap!

Ive hooked neon lights up to the remote wire. Maybe not such a good idea and I know have a dedicated accesory power and ground but it worked none the less and i didnt have a single problem. Everyone wondered how my neons magically came on with my head unit.

Using a 30 amp SPDT relay, connect terminal #87 to constant 12 volts positive with a fuse rated to the sum of the additional accessories you've added and the components you need to turn on. (If you have two fans rated at 5 amps each and a neon light rated at 10 amps, you would use a 20 amp fuse plus 200 ma for each amplifier and processor.) Connect terminal #85 to ground, terminal #86 to the remote turn on lead from the head unit, and terminal #30 to each accessory with an appropriate fuse. A fuse (not shown) could also be used between the output of the relay (#30) and the remote turn on lead of the amplifiers and/or processors for extra precaution.
this is what i did, and it works focking awesome. just tap the 12v+ wire from your fuse block, and ground the relay with a selftapping screw and a ring terminal right where you mount it. this way the battery is what is supplying power directly and the headunit is acting as a switch to tell the battery when to turn on all your electronics. i wouldnt try pulling more than 1a from your headunits remote line.

where do you buy that thing at. I remeber having one come in my power window kit for my ranger but now I want one for my accesory power. Lowes Home Depot???
