Remote Switch not working

Hello,
I am looking for some help with my system. I have the remote wire from my deck hooked up to my amp. The amp would stay on even if the car was turned off so my battery would die all the time. I was installing a switch to turn the amp off when the car is off, but now, the switch is not even powered. It makes no sense. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m about to go install a stereo and speakers tomorrow. The guys head unit would pull consistently from the battery even when the car was off which made him have to get a new battery and then after he got the new battery the new battery went out and he didn’t know why and then come to find out that the stereo was pulling from the battery the whole time even when the car was off. He bought a new stereo and I’m gonna give him some speakers I’m not using and hopefully that fixes the problem. So most likely u have a faulty head stereo. Or the stereo is hooked up wrong. The only way I know that it could do that if hooked up wrong is if u have the red wire and yellow wire together or maybe the remote wire together with the yellow wire. If everything is hooked up individually as they should then it’s probably ur stereo.

Break out the DMM.

DMM is digital multimeter. U can get one for 3 to 6 dollars at harbor freight. Start testing connections with it while the car is off and have it set on dcv 20 and see what is reading more than 0 while the car is off. And u will find ur problem. Just have the negative pen on the dmm pushed against some bare metal the whole time, not painted metal, silver metal or have it in the part of the harness the black wire is. Don’t unplug the stereo and stick the pins in the back of the harness where the wires go in. The only wire that should read while the car is off is the yellow wire.
