My friend was going to install my system today, he said everythings great, I bought the line converter and everything for the stock hu, but he said he didn't know where to connect the remote lead wire to... He said I could make a button but if I forget to push it then my car's battery will drain when I turn it off. He said it would take him hours to find the right wire to connect it to(something with the ignition? that turns the amp on, it barely needs a watt or something)

So does anybody know what this remote lead wire will go to from my amp? Like what specific thing do I connect it to... Thanks

and this is 100% the right choice? I just don't want to take any risks with the car, my dad will shoot me lol...

I just read on my MTX sheet to connect it to car stereo remote/power antenna turn on wire..

Ok ok I'm understanding the concept of the remote wire more now.... It must be connected to something that doesn't stay on when the cars off...

So if I connected it to the cig lighter I'd have no problems when the car is off, correct? I wouldn't have to turn the amp on/off at all...

Ideally you want the remote to be on only when the radio / cd is on. That's why aftermarket head units have a remote wire.

Cig lighter is a bad idea cuz it's powered all the time. Your amp will be on and drain the battery.

Ignition wire is OK except you won't be able to use the amp with the key in the accessory position.

If the car has a power antenna, then the radio has a wire to control it. That works too except some don't power up in CD mode.

The best source for remote IMO is the power wire to the radio. It's only on when the key is on in either run or accessory. Only downside to that is the amp would be on even with the radio off, but who cares? If my key is on so is the music //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

There are also aftermarket gizmos you can get that sense when there's signal going to your speakers and give you a remote based on that. David Navone sells one I think.

Just run it off of accessory power. I normally use the power to the a/c controls, as those come on when the key is in the accessory mode. Any switched power should work just fine as a remote.
