I dont think subs need to be broken in. I have run mine hard from the second they were installed. But if you are patient enough to take the time at half power, it wont hurt.

It is recommended with many because the suspension starts off very stiff and if you try to make some subs throw 1.5" right off the bat with an extremely stiff suspension, its likely that somethin is gonna break, so I would recommend it if your gonna be playing anything hard fresh out of the box.
