Does anone else find it ironic that some of the most dedicated religous people are also the most hypocritical and judgemental people? I know this doesn't hold true for all, but in my experiences it seems so.

Most dedicated religous people are some of the blindest people on the planet. So yes, I totally agree with your assessment. Kind of ironic really, since the Big Man does not judge.

The bible was constructed the way it was for political reasons...
I could easily go into the reasons, and I might later, but I have to go to lunch.

I grew up in church, went to church camps, youth conventions all that mess and the I grew up and was able to form an opinion for myself which is totally different from what I believed earlier in life

There are parts of it I do not like.. and then there are parts that I left out. I was trying to make it a philosophical paper (as my thesis states) but it turned into more of a political paper. Some of the jucier parts that I left out would have made it MUCH more obviously political... so.. they were left out .

If you want to read an incredible book, read:

Pagels, Elaine. Beyond Belief, the Secret Gospel of Thomas. New York: Random House, 2003.

(it's in the bibliography).

It's a very easy read because it has some really amazing information.
