red top, yellow top, stock batteries??

Originally posted by Ralphus You can put a yellow top under your hood, I've done it in my past three cars, never had ANY problems.
but if your alternator is too weak to power the batteries then its close to pointless to put yet another thing that needs to be charged in your electrical system

My duralast gold just died on me today (RIP) I lost 2 surpinten belts this month b/c of a bad pully that i replaced last night, but it was too late, it was too damaged to be saved. this morning i figured i needed a new one since they duralast had spewed out acid all over the place and the stench of rotten egg's was making me sick. when i went down to autozone the battery was still sizzling and smoking. the guy whould not even test it. heh, It was putting out about 8 volts. evey time i would stop my amps would cut out... so I looked in my wallet and said give me your cheapest battery!! stat!! D4MN too bad that duralast lasted less then a year... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif SH1T!!

you dont know anything about this subject...this isnt about battery life. your ALTERNATOR is what powers EVERYTHING. shit, if you get a battery that your alt cant handle it doesnt mean ANYTHING.

use the search button bro...

I think you should read through this thread again, especially before telling people they don't know anything about a subject. It tends to save some embarassment.

Get a new alternator it solves most all problems. Only reason I put in the batteries I had was because of the way my car is set up voltage wise it made sense to add a second battery if I was going to run a high output alternator. I think most solid batteries such as a Die Hard will do fine in most cars. I was able to get my Optima's at cost thus I went that route. Alternator and better wires to and from the alternator and battery make significant differences as well.

I got my alternator from here.

No problems in 2 years.

do a search...seriously. an alternator is what will solve his problem. a large battery that his alternator cant power is just as useless as a cap...and dont tell me that caps are good.

i have a red top in my boat that i mainly use for an auxillary battery for my system when we are docked. every once in a while though, i forget to turn the switch to the aux. battery, and i have to use the red top for the starting battery, and it works fine.

just one more thing. if you have a shit battery, and it is too dead to start your car, then your alternator wont do shit for you.

im talking about with the car off its not gonna give him much more bump time (his battery will prolly be charged more wich will give him a lil more time but hes talking about bumpin when the cars off, unless he means wth the car on for 20 min the battery dies yes that would be the alt but with the car off it would be the battery)

well........... I have a red top lightning audio battery.......... it lasted just as long as my stock battery wehn it came to powereing my system but it has lasted longer.... getting a better battery is mostly for the discharge rate becasue as it was explained to me a deep cycle battery has no memory so it can be all the way discharged over and over........ a regular acid battery will get damaged evertime it is discharged all the way.... the bad thing about having a yellow top in front with a h.o. alternator is that it can over charege the battery and damge it I had this happen in my acura my battery light came on so i turned the volume up (i was hitting high rpms) ..... and u should justy get a new alt and dont think that will solve all your problems if u dont regrond your alt and increases all the neccacary wires u wont notice the increse even 200a alternators only put out 100-130 at idle u usally haver to hit around 3000-4000 rpm to get the full 200 amps have u ever heard 1000 watts its hella loud... i would dare any of u to drive around all day with a jbl 1200.1 at full power with a 4 channel amp if u did not only would your ears hurt but your battery would go dead (well if u stayed at idle) so a battery does help because it stores power from the times that u were hitting 3000-4000 rpm so basically u need a new h.o.alt. Rewound alts blow easier and a new battery........ and u need to reground your engine and battery and increase your alt power wire somtimes your battery might now be grounded enough to handel the new activity (like my acura)

great explanation...i learn something new everyday.

but remember, a new battery will not be a solution to his problem...maybe that along with an alternator.

yeh your gonna need more then just a battery and dont just pop in a h.o. alternator with and increased powere wire or it will blow trust me how many watts are u running exactly and in what car that would helps us to explain what u should do alot
