reconing a sub

when reconing a sub,impedance can be changed,but what about the voice coil diameter.I have a mach5audio 15 (maw15) and a audioque 15.the audioque needs a recone,I talked to D.J. about it.its an old style,anyways,the baskets are both 4 spoke standard style,but the maw has dual 3inch coils and the que has dual 2.5 coils.will an audioque recone work in the maw basket eventhough the vc's were origanallly 3 inch and the recone comes w/ 2.5 inch?just wondering because the que was way louder than the maw is,my friend bought the que from me,then blew it,then gave it back to me free.so i was thinkin of reconing it.and then reconing the maw with the same kit to have matching subs.can this be done?

No, you need a recone that has a coil that fits the motor you are reconing.2.5 inch and 3 inch are not interchangeable.

its got to do with the t-yoke and the gap.

here is a picture of a cross section of a speaker.
