Alright, I recently got into a heated argument with a guy that claimed that a succesful reconing is not possible. He claimed that it can only be done with specific machines or the "dynamics" of the subwoofer will not be right and it will only play distorted music. I personally have never reconed a woofer but have seen friends and many other people that have done it and seems to work fine. I told him this and he said he has been in the car audio business for 5 years and knows how its done because he has been to the JL assembly plant and seen them be put together. He also said there are dozens of JL subs that are "thrown out" every day because their "alignment" is off by millimeters and rendered useless. I called bullshit on him but he still is claiming that a recone is not possible and the only solution is to replace the subwoofer. I said well then why would a company like RE make recone kits for their woofers if they can only be repaired with the factory machines? His reply was, oh thats because RE is a cheap a$$ woofer being sold at fleamarkets, I only deal with top of the line audio equipment like JL and Boston Acoustic. What do you guys think about this?
