I want to start doing my own recones. What does it take? Any good tutorials?

I know that the coil has to fit the gap and may limit the size of the coil or type. there are different sized coils, different types of spiders and different sizes. I know how to use shims and ive done a few drop ins no problem.

How do I know what parts will fit right, how do i get the coil in the right spot on the cone/spider, where do i get funky pup dust caps?

Basically looking to gather advice / places to learn about doing a woofer from scratch.

There is LOT more to it than that. You need to learn about motor technologies and know which one your motor uses. Aside from gap width, you need to know top plate height as well to know based on the motor technology, how deep to mount the coil in the motor. You need to understand how each part affect the other. You need to understand T/S parameters pretty well and have the ability to measure them as well as a cad mockup showing what each coil, motor, cone and spider will have what fs, bl etc. Get to reading.
