recommendation on amp

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions. Finishing the Audio component part of this car took a back seat to tearing the interior out and redoing the upholstery etc...Now is the perfect time to do the audiowork..

New Head Unit setup as of 3 weeks ago. Ditched the eclipse.

Mcintosh MX4000 and MDA4000 DAC. 2 pairs of Boston Z6's, just like the original post said.

I can still go up to 1k on the amp costs. I'm seeking the highest possible SQ without going over 1k for one or two amps. I would also like to push 200w per side to those bostons.. and as someone else suggested, rule of thumb was, you do 70-80% of what the amp can handle? So I guess that means I need a 1000w amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have no problem getting a sweet used amp, btw. My MAC stuff is used but in pristine condition.

What do you guys think of this amp?:

Butler Audio

Its a butler tube amp. I could bridge and get about 2 x 200w bridged at 4 ohms... so it would push a lot more at 3ohms (I don't know the formula) maybe 280w per side? Some quick googling hasn't given me a formula yet. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

@jamesw, I do like that MCC404 amp, its only pushing 100w per channel tho..I think thats going to grossly underpower my speaks. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I did see one used on ebay though, I thought about picking it up

I could do 1k total for 1-2 amps to powers these two pairs of Z6's, unless for a bit more I can get something substantially better - I doubt thats the case though, but you never know so I put that out there.
Man, that reference series 1000w Zapco is **** enticing..only 700 bucks too.

I am using Boston Pro 60's, and feeding them 225W/side (GT-24). I actually think that 300W/side would be better. So, if you're looking into how much power, I think you might want to look into the Boston amps. The GT-28 would be ideal. You can pick them up off of Ebay, now, for a song. The newer amps are out, and the price for a BNIB "old" model GT-28 is down at least $100 from what they used to ask, for new.
You know, I asked my shop guy about the Boston amps and he said they sucked...I do realize that is only 1 persons opinion..but I rarely hear boston mentioned when I hear about amps. (in nor order) Tends to be Zapco, Arc, Tru, Butler, and old Soundstream amps. (not sure what models).

you heard some good stuff about the GT-28?

Well let me throw this out there. Are we still playing by this rule:Don't use more than 80% of your amp power? The old theory was this would help alleviate a number of things, such as heat, distortion and signal/noise ratios by not having to crank the amp way up.I.E., I'm planning on running probably 200-250rms per side. If I was maxing out a 1000w 4CH amp, I might run into heat and signal loss issues. If I ran the same amp at only 80% or 200w rms per side, then I would be less prone to such problems.

That used to be the prevailing thought, even on high-quality amps. I don't know if that is still the case.

I really appreciate your insight on the percentage usage of the amp..thanks!

K, I picked up a McIntosh Mcc404 amp 100w x 4

If that doesn't do it I'm going to get a Butler Tube Amp 575. Hopefully this Mac can push my boston Z6's.

I guess I need some 8 inch speakers (want to run 2 8's), an EQ and a digital crossover and I'm done.

Think the cap is a bad idea?

I'm adding two 8's and another amp to power those...so I'm thinking

1. zapco or butler amp for the8's

2. some kind of 8's (soundstream maybe)

3. cross over

4. EQ.

Man, I'm getting close...I can taste it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thank you for your time!
