Rebuilding subs with nasty coil gaps

I have 3 AA 3.0 motors that I'm building to 12" subs for a buddy. The gaps are nasty with rust and metal shavings. What is the best way to go about cleaning them out? Air compressor did not work..

Thinking pressure washer and then WD40 to make sure it doesn't rust.

Ive used vinegar to clean up corroded jet ski parts, not sure if there's anything on a motor that would react poorly tho.

Best bet is to get some strong tape. Fold it onto itself and run it around the gap. Do this several times. I'm sure there are other (better) methods as well.

Tape works for me, Might need to uses some sandpaper first if it's actually rusted,

Most people are gonna say tape to remove the shavings. Then I'd hit it with some fine grit sand paper, then blast it with the pressure washer, then hit it with the air compressor to make sure it's completely dry.
