Rear speakers on sometimes/off sometimes

I recently installed the Alpine CDA-9856 head unit. I had to strip and reconet the wires into the plastic connector piece on the back, because the previous pioneer deck had a different sized plastic insertion piece. Anyways, I know all the wires are connected correctly as I have checked them twice and had some friends check them.

When the head unit is turned on to tuner (fm/am), all the speakers are working and it sounds great. But then when I either switch it to cd or ipod, only the front two speakers are working and nothing is emitted from the rear speakers. At first I thought it might be some type of setting in the deck, but have found no such setting that fixes this. Then I thought that maybe the wiring to the speaker may be flawed, but found no evidence.

If anyone has any recommendations to fixing this problem, it would be grateful.

Thanks
