If he's just doing a deck+4 I'd keep it the way it is.No rear speakers, do they have speakers behind you at a concert? If you propperly power your front speakers you are not gonna notice the rears. Most peopel have 6x9" behind them that put out a good amount of sound, though with a sub and a amp on your front speakers you will not notice they are gone. Just pull your rear speaks so the bass can get into the cabin easier.
Get a nice 75x2 amp for your front stage, the MTX pro amps are a steal on Ebay.
Under 200 check out the old Infinity basslink system, 10" sub and 200 RMS.
THe new Basslink is like 250 and looks to be a good deal.
I second the Kenwood Excelon Idea they have many usefull features and a great EQ.
THat 500/1 is gonna run you twice your budget for subs and amp, you need a box and probbaly $40 on power wire and I just dont see it happening.
Check the classifieds here a lot and you might find amp sub combo for $200.
A deck, 4 coaxials, an amp and subs is a decent step up from the stock... considering he doesn't want to spend much to begin with.
It's a good upgrade for the everyday driver, who isn't necessarily and audio enthusiast.
