hey guys im really stuck with this situation.... i have no idea what to do about my rear fill... look down at my signature if u wanna know what car/ setup i have so far. as u can see i dont have any speakers at all yet and of course are getting a new front fill but i cant get my front fill until i know what im doin with my rear... so far i think i have 3 chocies....

A. Take out the rear fill and dont worry about it

B. Keep the facory speakers in the rear and amp them

C. keep the factory speakers in and just run them off the HU

which one do you think would best suit me...i would like as many opinions as i can get

im looking for a nice sounding system... good bass, mids, and highs

btw since i have a 4 channle amp i will be able to get more powerful front speakers if i dont have to amp the rear ones.. if that makes any differnce

thanks for the advice, just wondering though... why would a rear fill mess up my sound stage.. i dont know too much about this stuff but it seems to mee that adding more mids and high(im guessing thats what a rear fill puts out) would only help the sound by adding more then just bass in the back.. can u explaine to me why it would sound better without it it.. thanks for the opinion

gotcha... im assuming a 6.5 speaker can fit wherever a 6X9 can fit then... i didnt know this b4... if i do get them do u think it would be good just to run them off the HU?

if you must have them i would do option C and fade to the front. whenever you have people in the rear, give them a little music by fading to the rear. that way you dont need to do any work.

It varies depending on the vehicle but they shouldnt require much modding if theyre not an exact fit. As far as amping goes I would spend a little more on a front stage like some Diamond M6's etc that have a rear fill output so you could run your 300/4 bridged to the x overs and run power back to the rear fill speaks.

6x9's traditionally sound like crap due to their oval shape. It just distorts the sound.
I didn't know that!?!?!?!?!?

Ne ways I've always liked rear fill in my cars. Never gone w/o it except for once and I noticed it and it drove me absolutley crazy. I say just run it off the HU turn them down and turn the gain up on the fronts, etc.

as for the soundstage. your front speakers create the frontstage, meaning in a concert you are standing in the audience and the music is coming at you. if you add a rear fill, that will bring the soundstage back and hence imagine you being on stage in a concert. generally to hear the music better, you'd rather be in the audience than on stage to enjoy the music. but its personal preference.

I'm with Echo on this one and call BS due to urban legend. I've read all the allegedly technical reasoning behind why an oval speaker simply due to its non-round shape is ill-suited to reproducing music accurately.

I say that like any other size of speaker, whether it be a subwoofer, a full-range coaxial, dedicated midrange or tweeter, whatever the driver in question may be it will be more a matter of the quality of the speaker(s) in question that dictates whether it sounds worth a crap or not.

My few-years-old Pioneer Premier TS-E6990 3-way ByNines (from the first year that they coated the cones with a thin layer a nickel plate for added rigidity) sounded freggin excellent when I got them new as a gift and a few years later after being part of several installs in multiple cars they still sound freggin excellent and no one will tell me different.

Having said that...

Rear fill is purey a matter of personal preference. Most seem to disagree with its use. That's fine if that is their choice. Others like it and some, like Echo and I, refuse to do without it. Please don't advise someone shouldn't do something just because in your application it doesn't work. Give them your opinion and reasons behind it but it is awfully arrogant to assume that because you don't like something that someone else shouldn't do it if that is their 'druthers. (pardon my Southern origins...)

#1 Nowhere in my post did I tell him what to do I just gave suggestions.
Pardon me, friend. I was unaware that this:
For your purposes put the extra money into your front stage.
was a suggestion rather than a directive.

#2 I love rear fill
Good! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif
#3 I never said not to use 6x9's
Oh, no?
But I would say later on get some 6.5's for the rear.
why would i get 6.5's instead of 6X9s?
6x9's traditionally sound like crap due to their oval shape. It just distorts the sound.
Had that been me I'd certainly have understood that to mean you were advising not to use ByNines but rather get some 6.5" drivers somewhere down the road...

#4Im just going with my ears and physics.
Those physics that dictate that a non-round speaker cannot perform well, eh? Careto explain the proliferation of Kicker's SoloBarics as true SPL contenders?

[/rant] Let's just agree to disagree without being disagreeable, eh? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Agreed:)

#1 Perhaps this couldve been misinterpreted. My bad.

#2 Killer

#3 Dont see where I commanded him to get 6.5's or be smited by an angry God. But I guess its up to the readers interpretation.

#4 The physics that dictate a non round speaker may have great bass response but will never hold a candle to the sound quality of most traditionally shaped speakers.

solobarics=fart cannons

The solos may get louder than my Diamond D6 but it will never sound better. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
