hi

anyone have any experience with changing rear end gears. i have a 67 camaro ss and i'm pretty sure there are highway gears in the rear end so i was thinking of putting in the 4:11's anyone know how hard it would be to do this myself? Any other comments on these gears and how would i know what size i need two options are fits 3 sereis or 4 series carrier

I got a verbal offer to wrench for a certain NASCAR team so I'll try to help. You need to make sure the backlash is set to specs, not much room for error here....every rear end is slightly different....You can't just bolt up the ring and pinion and go, you're rear may whine like a baby. It's also a good idea to change the bearings and seals while you're back there...that requires a hydraulic press to get the bearings on/off the axles...~$75 from harborfrieght.com. Besides the basic tools you'll need the press and percision measuring calipers. Not too difficult, just be thorough. Best of luck

yea, rear end gear changes aren't really all that hard, my father and I swapped gears and rebulit the trac-lok in my mustang in an evening. Just take your time and make sure to check the backlash! If it whines when you get it all put back together, STOP DRIVING it! and go back in and make sure everything is installed correctly.
