Rear Deck Subwoofers

heh.
I'm lookin to put my subs on the rear deck. I know how I am going to do it.

The thing is, after I put the subs on the rear deck, my seats will be up because they would no longer have to be down, and on top of it being the middle of summer, my trunk will both get no ventilation and be hot as hell all the time.

I figured I would throw in a couple 12cm fans to move some air around... but where should I put them? I was considering adding them to the rear deck, but I don't want to lose any SPL due to cancellation.

Basically I am going to fiberglass a new rear deck, and I will go to lengths to have it be completely sealed. I am going to use removable caulk around the edges for a tight seal.

The question is, would I suffer any cancellation losses in installing the 12cm fans in the rear deck?

Thanks,

Brian

so your subs are going to be free air? If not, you mean the fans will just be outside of the box of the sub, but still in the rear deck? If anything, Do you really need fans? What about just putting fans that blow air over your amps?

Don't forget to seal behind the back seat too... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif also you don't need fans -- if anything needs a fan it would be the amp... it also may be easier to cut a sheet of MDF to use as the new rear deck instead of lots of fiberglass...

Sorry, the two 15" avalanches are going in a 5 cube enclosure, sealed.

I just got anal about the whole fan thing because I have four PPI PCX series amplifiers, they are all going in the trunk on an amp rack, and my trunk will be ultimately sealed when I am finished with this install. I was just concerned about the trunk becoming an oven for the four PPI PCX amplifiers.
By the way, I'm running PPI PCX4125 to active DLS UR6 and UR1 components, a PCX440 to adire koda 8's, and two PCX2200s to two Ascendant Audio Avalanche 15's.

Just a little worried.... but no one really answered the question.. would it cause cancellation?

If your sealing your trunk putting in fans between the trunk and cabin would be completely pointeless. You might have better luck tring to find a way to vent the trunk directly to the outside of the car. Maybe like a 1" hole in somewhere with a fan fiberglassed around it so it's like a funnel, and a .5" hole on the other side of the trunk. Netting over the hole to prevent critters, and maybe a tube like thing on the outside pointed a certain way so water doesn't get in if it's on the floor, because There are quite a few spots on most undercarriages of cars that don't get very wet.

Then in the winter he'd also have the heater blowing back there also, I don't know how cold it is in ohio but maybe 0 degrees wouldn't be too good to vent in from the outside to the trunk. Not sure. If it's 30 degrees though I don't think it'd matter. Unless you can somehow wire a heater in there. Now i'm just going way out there though.

Yeah that's really far out... i dont need to do any of that stuff...

basically..

1.) 95 degree and sunny days in summer in the trunk with 4 amplifiers and a signal processor and ~2500RMS of power and heating up constantly, would that be taxing on the amplifiers?

2.) would I suffer any cancellation losses in installing the 12cm fans in the rear deck?

as long as you don't interfere with the box that the sub is in, I can't see how there would be cancellation. It'd be like having the window cracked a bit, except if the trunk had a window on the rear deck, it'd be like cracking the rear deck window, ya know? However, I'd still put fans that blow over the amps even if you are venting the rear deck.

If the back window is there, are you going to be able to put the subs in when it's done, or get a drill up in there to tighten it down?

good detail on the fan blades btw lol
