fedex about threw my W7 away.... untill.............

I bought a Jl w7 from a guy off of this website. he decided to ship it in the worst box ever. when it arived it was cracked and punctured on the top. it was in a Custom box so i said what the hell, lets plug it in anyway to even see if it powers up. the cracks in the face of the sub vibrated so much it sounded like shit so i had fedex come pick it back up to investigate. well fedex inspected it and was going to throw it away like they do all damaged goods. I called JL and told them about the issue. asked how much it would be to refubish the sub. she said " just that plastic piece got torn?, yeah, i said, she said you dont need to pay us 350 bucks to rebuild it, take scissors and cut it out. trust me then plug it in, itll look ghetto as **** but itll work." so i did, i cut the plastic out, and sure enough it sounded as if it were new....... imagine that..... they gave me my 450 bucks back and i kept the sub FEDEX was going to throw away......... now all i need is some sub grill and youd never even know it happened...... my question is, hows the sub even work with out a face? is it only there to say w7 ? and to look nice? w7 pics

I think that there are two layers to the cone. You just cut away the top layer so that it would stop rattling.

I would ask them if it really is strictly cosmetic, or if there's a chance of premature driver failure a year, two, or three down the road. I contacted jl today, they said it is a 2 layer cone unlike most other subs and is strictly cosmetic and for looks basically. the guy that sold me the sub put on the ebay auction that insurence on the sub was included...... when i called fedex to pick it back up, they said the shipped refused any insurence..... so i do have a paypal civil suit going on but it freakin takes 30 days at a minimum. but yeah i have the sub installed in my truck, powers by the jl slash 500/1 and geeze im about deaf now, sounds like i have 4 jlw0 subs..... unreal i tell ya. so i need a grille to put on top of it so it doesnt look ghetto....... any tips on decent grille that will cover a w7? most are too low profile.... here is the pics ----> W7 pics

Just a FYI

You cant put a grill on a W7, there is nowhere to mount it and the surround is very tall
