My amp has been overheating. It's a Sony xplod 800w 2 channel amp. I reached he fuses in back of it since they were the wrong ones. Fixed the ground and other wires.

It had been shutting off and found out it was the fuse by the battery so I replaced it.

It's staying on now but the amp gets really hot. I installed a fan to help but it is still hot to the touch. Hasn't shut off on me yet and I'm wondering if sony amps just get this hot?

I also believe the subs are 4ohms each and the amp is 4 ohms stable.

It's powering two Rockford Fosgate r1ls which are each on their own channel of the amp.

Need some help here plz

sorry to hear your amp is :shitting: off.

anyway, set your gains correctly and amp will cool down a bit. but some amps just get very hot. if it continues to run hot after setting gains, then just be sure to check if it has overheat protection, and the amp will take care of its self.

but in reality, amps shouldn't shut off from overheating unless their being over driven, also being here in Texas, as soon as you get in your car its already up to 140+ degrees in the car. and thats going to cause the amp to be more likely to get very hot

Well I fixed it from shutting off. It ended up being a fuse.

It won't shut off anymore but gets really hot. I'm looking for a replacement for my two twelve inch subs rated at 300rms

fuses are either good or bad. they won't cause an amp to turn off then back on. well, maybe some AGU fuses could since they rely on two solder joints. that's why i've moved away from AGU to MAXI and ANL

any decent monoblock will outperform the Sony. there are plenty to choose from that will give more power with fewer issues. even a 500W RMS x1 at 2 ohms will be worlds better without requiring you rewire the amp.
