Realistic numbers

Hi all,

I am working the the box design for my 2 18" xcons and am running into space issues, not cubic footage but space to mount subs and have ports.

It has to be a tall box with either ports and or subs up.

Size I have to work with is 22 x 40 x 40 tall (about 20 cubes gross).

The issue I am having is the diameter of the sub flange is 18.5 - does not leave much for port on the long side and adding 2 subs would be 37 - so not much to put ports on the short sides either.

Was looking into either a 4th or 6th but I can not find anywhere that gives a formula to get a cu foot size that would work. Most of the posts I found on the net say the size of a small house but that is in no way realistic numbers (small house 100-200 cu ft, ya right).

Was also looking into running isobaric where from what I read it takes about half the size of box, but then still running into issues of determining size of the box in the first place.

I have no issues with modifying/rebuilding a box however many times it takes to get right.

I could run just 1 but that would be no fun lol

I looked at Jeff's box but I think when Toyota redesigned the van in 2011 they changed the space in the back. At least from what I found on other Sienna web sites where someone was asking about cargo space dimensions.

22 x 40 x 40 is only 17.5 gross, you subtract 1.5 from each for wood thickness. For that space, you'll want to go aeroport with a sonotube from home depot. Probably need 2 10 sonotubes ported to the side. If you can, do a cardboard mock up to see if the box will hit hatch window since its kinda curved. At the bottom, there's some steel curves at the side that might prevent the box from just dropping straight in.

There is no way to do a 4th or 6th order at all with both of them so scratch that from the list.

What are you putting this enclosure in?

Rear cargo space of a 2011 Sienna minivan, retaining 3rd row seats.

@Jeffdachef - where would I put these 10" tubes in at? I have done a few drawings and I am not seeing where they would fit in the top with the subs also.

I guess I could do a custom 3 sided port between the subs on both front and back but I don't think there would be much wood left for the top deck and I think it would create a weak spot.

The steel curves you are referring to is where I mounted my IA6.4 right?

I was kinda referring to total box volume I guess with wood included, sorry about that, thought it was gross volume.

@Jeffdachef
I have 40 from the 6.4 to the inside of the other side - I thought I needed the cubic footage so I didn't think I could put the ports on the side with there being only like 4-5 in to the side of the van.[/QUOTE]

4-5" is plenty of room. My Tahoe with port back loved 4" away from hatch.. So 4/5" away from the side wall will be fine. Just don't build the box to tall.

Sweet - I was wondering how I was going to fit subs and the ports on the top deck. I was only going tall for the cubes.

Using Jeff's mspaint diagram for layout - do I use what SSA recommends for the cubes (7.25-7.75ft^3 @ 27-34hz) or what would be suggested?

And remember at least double layer ur whole box. So when u use Torres box calc ur wood should be 1.5" thick. And after woofer and port and bracing displacement space gets ate up fast.... I say just wall it 3rd row lol. Cuz I never had a mini can but all suv I've had it never sounded very good with a box over 24" tall. If it's to close to the roof it just doesn't get loud n sound as good as it should/could.
