RE8 not playing as well as expected, few questions.

As an extra step, what i usually do with the connectors, is I will take a par of the sharp wire cutters, and crimp the connectors, to make sure they do not come loose inside the sub enclosure, if not soldered,I even do that to my door speakers.Yet, the connectors have to be replaced if changing out speakers, but the connection, and worries of one coming loose is bare minimum:D, and I can live with that

Since you have, and are making due with the box you have. For the port, You can also get a piece of pvc from H depot/Lowes, and tune the box yourself to your liking.Ive taken and done that before,Just bottom it out inside the box, and kepp bringing it out to where you like the sound of the sub, and mark it, and cut it off, and push it back in, and silicone around the port/seal.Then to get rid of that ugly white color, Black spray paint work just fine.Works just fine.for what it is.Save you some money, as ports can be expensive.and who is to say what size you really need for that enclosure, you have built, when you can use your own ears for judgement?Just another of my 0.02cents.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

My amp is supposed to put out about 600w at about 4 ohms. so i'm playing it safe with this sub.
clipping is worse than to much power, Make sure to set your gains correctly

Also, Thank you very much the post above, I'm thinking about replacing the piece that has the cutout of the sub and make a different one.

What would be your opinion on replacing the cutout piece and making another one with a round port in it? what size port would you suggest?

I don't know. I would have to run it through WinISD. It will be longer than what you have now though.

Also, I believe the connectors are also causing a problem. I don't know how my impedance lowers, because both coils alone are 3.8. I'll try cutting down the electrical variables tomorrow.

I put the multi meter to my amps speaker terminals and its giving me an insane impedance. i'm getting like 300 some ohms. I tried probing it on the inside of the terminal and still got same results, could this be a problem with my amp?

If you have the amp disconnected from the sub, than you should get something very high, that sounds correct.

EDIT: My ohm reading at the amp is the one thats getting 300 ohms, I'm getting a smaller reading when I probe the wires themselves. (6.5 ohms) just to make myself clear.
6.5 ohms? then you have the vc in series. This is an dual 4ohm sub then. What does your amp do at 8 ohms? 150watts? What amp do you have? And can it work at 2ohms?

I found that when I had a 150 watt amp hooked up to my 8 I was trying to make it push 300 watts. That is not good. When playing music most subs can take way over their rated power. Of course you can burn them up doing that, but it is still better than clipping the amp.

Yeah I was thinking around 150. maybe 300 at most. I can run it at 2 ohms, but then it would be getting around 1.2k of power..

yeah, it is a dual 4. I just found it strange that its giving me an individual vc rating of 3.8 but in a series it only gives me 6.5...

Apologies for not being clear on that... should have remembered that one.

Do u have it wires exactly like this

He bought the sub off me. I demod on free air and showed vcs. Ur mm may be off. I got the 7.6 off mine.

Second .7 at 34 hz is optimal.

.5 sealed.

Ur wiring needs to be taped to a nut, not ran through port.

Wire it two ohms, and take ur gain down to extremely low. Itll be fine. .use new wires, maybe a problem with the run ur using.

Nope, That would be to get it down to two ohms correct? I have it like this.

& to dirtrider4eva I know the sub you sold me was fine, checked the vc's and even brought it out all wired up to demo. I wouldn't blame your sub for this, I know its something I'm doing wrong haha.

& yeah i'm probably going to do that today, just do wiring on the box right. I'm going to try and replace the wiring and test it out that way before I get it down to two ohms. Kinda afraid to do that lol.

Also I need to figure out if my amp is messed up, does anybody know ways I can check it with my dmm?

I don't think that your amp is messed up. There is a sticky on this site about setting gains with a dmm. check it out. rewire your sub to two ohms and set the gains on your amp using the sticky instructions.

Make sure the spiders arent sagging, they will change the ohm reading. The port of that box violated the 9-1 rule, the opening should never exceed this ratio because you will get a shift in phase and tuning will change, combine that with too much air space and theres your problem. Use a 2 or 3in round port, do sub back port to the side and mount the sub as close to the wall adjacent to where the port is mounted.

I would wire that sub to a 2ohm load myself, to try to get the most out of it.If using that HF amp under your profile, it shouldnt be an issue at 2ohms, and should be pretty good.I wouldnt be afraid to drop the ohms on that amp.Try it out, and if it doesnt sound good to you, just bring the sub, and amp back up to the ohms you feel comfortable at.Im at a 2ohm load, and i enjoy it,and i have been in a 1ohm, and seems to be good also, but to me a money pit to stabalize the 14.4 v load,.Yet, 2ohms should be just fine with that amp, and sub.My opinion:D

I just think ur amp doesn't put much put at 8 ohms is the problem
Of not its a wiring issue and the picture I posted was right that's the one I was trying to post
I agree..8ohms ?Not a very good ohms load to begin with for car audio.Home audio, its fine. But, ya, im with you, not enough juice at that ohms load.Drop it to 2ohms, and get something out of it..IMO
