RE SX vs Kicker L7 :p

After reading through this again, its obvious that many of you have no experience what so ever with the newer style L7's. I would not mind running one tuned down to about ~30hz in a nice size ported box (6.0cube netall day w/75sq in of port). They have an fs of 26.3hz, a qts of .507 Lets examine the specs on the fi Q now, fs of 24.9, qts of .49. Everyone knows the Q is a nice sounding driver, much better sounding than the SX please dont kid yourselves. Not to mention the L7 has a slight cone area advantage due to the square cone.Talk smack about all the older style L7's getting nasty loud and sounding like garbage, but from my experience with the newer style they are a good driver. Speaking strictly about the 15"
Smooth response, good low end authority. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

(SSD 15" Fs-25.3hz Qts- .52)
even if you had the old ones and put them in a larger than recommended box AT THAT TIME they still sounded awesome. every TEAM KICKER car i listened to was at or near the top as far as best sounding systems i have heard. maybe alot of it is mental but i can never recall listening to anyones system in a parking lot that sounded nearly as good as those and to say you want to use an SX for SQ is totally mind bending to me. they get loud and can sound "decent" but i would never consider decent sounding as an SQ driver but that is my opinion. SX's were designed to give you a kick in the ARSE without needing 1000's of watts.

Exactly, the design of the SX never entertained a thought of SQ, it is strictly meant to be a daily street beater that gets nasty loud of 1200-1400wrms.

I consider the L7 to be a better overall driver than the SX. They are a toss up to which is louder....all install dependant, however the L7 is a smooth sounding driver when in a nice size enclosure and tuned low. Same with the SX, although it has a more ruff sound with a strong low end.

yes yes and everyone knows the crappiest sounding always wins....thing is it would have been pretty hard at the time for the winners using those subs to lie about what they had LOL and i have listened to 2 of gary bigg's systems and 2 of mark eldridge's and rob rice...yes yes they all sounded so horrible that they felt sorry for them and let them win LOL
way to name drop.. clearly a competent installer can make the right equipment sound good... and I am sure biggs used old kicker solo's once upon a time.... but did any of these guys win anything with L7's ?

Arguing with fanboys is clearly a fruitless endevor.... but as far as I am concearned the 08 and 07 L7s have been more of the same.... blinged & marketed for the mindless masses.....

I'm not about to necassarilly recommend an SX to anyone either... but given the choice it's a no brainer... (I guess I better say IMO otherwise more fanboys will try to 'prove' how wrong I am... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif)

as a matter of fact yes they used L7's why would i bring it up if it was not L7's? ask polecat im sure he remembers the EXACT equipment better than I do but just to put things in perspective Biggs used a soloX square in his car for spl and i do believe L7 10 for actual sq and at that time kicker was not making round solo's any more...they were all square. Rob Rice had 3 tens across the back of his white honda and if i recall Eldrige had 15's but I also heard it when MTX was in it so was not the first time I heard one of his set ups.

Having owned both, I would say the difference in SQ is negligible. With that said, the L7's get louder and can take a little more heat.

Also, I'm not biased. I didn't receive a Kicker sponsorship until after running them for a few years by choice.
