90% build, 10% equipment
90% build, 5% beer, 5% equipment.

I think both have their own pros & cons.

I would take the L7 any day over the sx, they have been proven countless times in the lanes. I think they can sound good too.

Nick Wright talked me into it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Many of the guys on here that have done SPL testing with the SX have reported to not have good results. If I'm not mistaking, somebody on here got louder with their SE than their SX.

Ok, not trying to be a douche.. and sorry about bringing this thread back to the top lol I was just browsing the forums, but SX's DO have better SQ than L7's... ya, ya, install and such does take a lot into affect, but with the same install (ok, not same install, but if both were setup in the same vehicle at different times and tested in THEIR optimal enclosures/installs) the SX has better SQ than the L7.

Just like AQ's aren't known for having the greatest SQ, but some people have made good, LOUD nonetheless, but good SQL systems with AQ HD's, the L7's have obviously had some owners who installed them right and got some decent SQ out of them.. but as far as general "SQ" goes, I have to say, every L7 (though I have only heard a few systems with them) system I have ever heard sounded like balls..

But I do agree with MikeyB that the more power the L7's have the better.. because the best "SQ" (I put it in quotes because at 1500+ watts true SQ kinda goes out the window somewhat) I ever heard from L7's was my buddy's two L7 15's in a massive ported box (probably 10+ cubes) in his 90's Yukon XL with 3200 watts total, and even it was still pretty much just noise and air lol..

But anyways, my opinion and personal preference ANY day, if I HAD to choose between L7 or SX:

SX. No doubt. All day everyday. And I'm not a fanboy, I have AA Arsenals lol..

Blah, I have SQ and SPL trophies here. Seems the judges like them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Between the cheesy plastic cone, stamped steel basket, F'd up response curves, significantly smaller voice coil/motor, and build quality of the kicker.... I'd say the SX wins hands down......

L7's have won i cant even count how many world SQ championships at the highest level....you don't do that sounding bad..just to flip the script never heard an SX in an sq system..i have heard them plenty of times just nothing SQ or remotely close to sq

everyone knows that SQ comps are always about true sound quality and not name brand recognition/advertising or biased judging.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

yes yes and everyone knows the crappiest sounding always wins....thing is it would have been pretty hard at the time for the winners using those subs to lie about what they had LOL and i have listened to 2 of gary bigg's systems and 2 of mark eldridge's and rob rice...yes yes they all sounded so horrible that they felt sorry for them and let them win LOL

After reading through this again, its obvious that many of you have no experience what so ever with the newer style L7's. I would not mind running one tuned down to about ~30hz in a nice size ported box (6.0cube netall day w/75sq in of port). They have an fs of 26.3hz, a qts of .507 Lets examine the specs on the fi Q now, fs of 24.9, qts of .49. Everyone knows the Q is a nice sounding driver, much better sounding than the SX please dont kid yourselves. Not to mention the L7 has a slight cone area advantage due to the square cone.Talk smack about all the older style L7's getting nasty loud and sounding like garbage, but from my experience with the newer style they are a good driver. Speaking strictly about the 15"

Smooth response, good low end authority. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

(SSD 15" Fs-25.3hz Qts- .52)
