HOWEVER, you do have another option. The IA LI 15, which is about the same price. I currently run them. They almost have the SQ of a dedicated SQ woofer, and get just as loud, if not louder, than both RE SX 15s and Alpine Type R 15s.

I am trying decide on getting the 2 Alpine type r 15('05 model) or 2 RE sx 15's in the group buy. I am just wandering how they will compare to each other with someone having experience with both.

Is there a group buy going on for 15" alpine type r's?? If so, where?!

I think he is saying...that you tested the r for many boxes as you say but just throw the sx in an re spec box that was prolly not even designed what you were wanting to do with it.

It was one box... The box was built a long time ago, it wasn't really woofer specific at all. It was loosely built for a type R, it worked, so I kept it.

Its not that the SX was "bad"... its that the R was BETTER //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Either kick or dash, one or the other. Its not a "little" more time, everything has to be tested all over again for the dash. The note changes, the way the interior wants to be changes... normally the kick and dash are 2 completely different animals.

Right now everyone has this impression that you just threw an SX into a box to RE's specs, while using a TCAB on the Type R. Something like "$200 speaker A in it's factory recommended box isn't as good as $100 speaker B in a dual bandpass ABC folded horn enclosure built to T/S specs taken directly from the sub in it!!" which is, more or less, a "No ****, Sherlock" scenario.

The SX is no longer on hand... There was no reason to keep it.

You dont seem to understand that it was just a generic 15 box... it just happened to fall right into RE's spec. It was specific to my monte carlo, and thats pretty much that. I built it with the intention of trying other woofs in it.

The test wasn't swayed in either direction, at all... it could be argued that the type R wasn't in its proper box either... why? Because at the point in time of building that box, I had no idea exactly what the R wanted, or what the SX wanted. I just built the thing and said lets turn it up.

I didn't "want" the type R to be better, I didn't give half a shyte what was better.. if the SX proved itself to be a better woofer, I would have ran 2 12's @ finals. So you're saying you used the same box for both tests? That makes more sense. I was thinking.. well, you know what I was thinking. Two boxes, two sizes.

Anywway, I'll go back to not reading this thread. IMO there have been two many "150 dB Type R !!11!!!1" threads all ready.
