Re audio sxx bit the dust after 3 days

My old RE Audio SEs 10s are champs. Since I have owned them they have never given me problems. Not one. I decided to go with 1 15 in my truck ported to 33hz. So I bought an RE Audio SXX 15 dual 4 ohm woofer and had a box custom made for it. The box was ready on Thursday of last week and everything is good. I was driving around a little last night and I started smelling smoke from the port. So I turn off the radio and drive home in silence. I get in the truck again this afternoon and bamn the speaker blew. It was being powered by my Arc Audio KS1000.1BX at 2 ohms. No bass boost, gain up about 1/3 of the way, not even at half. I am done with the new RE Audio stuff.

that ***** i alway heard that the new RE audio is not even close to being as good as the old stuff but **** being only powered by a amp thats only a 3rd of the way turned up. I just wonder if it could of been a defect in the sub.

gain isn't volume control, because its only 1/3 of the way up doesn't mean its only putting out 1/3 of its power.

Probably so, thank god for a return within 30 days. I wouldn't trust another new RE Audio if someone gave it to me.
been hearing this alot, i wasn't impressed with the new mxs (1500rms ones.

I know how to set gains properly and I am well versed about clipping speakers so it couldn't have been that. I literally disconnected the 10's put in the new box and 15 and I smell smoke 3 days later. I just reinstalled the 10's tested it for about 10 minutes and no problems. When I disconnected the 15 I check all of the wiring and everything was fine. Oh well, lesson learned.

An improper enclosure can also create issues. As well as not readjustment your amp for the new sub setup.

I'm not saying re is as good as they were at one time. However, from my time of being in various customer service (for audio manufactures) this is user error. Not trying to be mean in any way. Just saying...hey not the companies fault.

I've swapped out 12 after 12 using the exact same amp settings. Never changing the gain, headunit settings, amp settings.. and never had an issue like this. It takes major abuse or something done wrong to cause a coil to literally burn up.

Yes and no. It is all realative to the install. I'm not going to sit and argue the point. Fact is if a coil is "burning" something in the setup is not correct. Not very likely to be a manufacture defect.

I just said that bromie. I'm not disagreeing with you.

I would agree with you but I have always leaned on being conversative with my gains. The last time I blew a woofer was in 2001. I would tend to think that it was the enclosure if anything else.

This is my point. I am wondering what the hell happened.

There are always freak accidents. Coulda been something lodged in the gap, coulda been a tiny connection gone bad causing arcing.. coulda been lots of things. I suggest you move onto some of the better companies. RE used to be top notch.. it's not anymore, however.

Depending on the design and tuning and placements of sub/port it very well could. I have built several enclosures locally for new re subs and all though they are not the same as old, they do fairly well. I have only seen a few burn and all issues were user error(most with adjusting the amp).

Just because your amp may not be clipping though and your settings work on another sub setup, that does not mean you should leave all settings as they were. Any time something changes you should always go over all settings to verify what is going on.
