I have an RE AUDIO sx18d2 in a 5.5 cu.ft. enclosure tuned to 34hz running off an RE AUDIO dts1500.1 amp. The sub is wired at 1ohm and the amp is 1ohm stable. Under HEAVY play the dust cap starts to get hot. Gain is set at half way and the bass nob is turned all the way down. What can i do to keep it from getting so hot or is this just normal.

It doesn't get so hot that i cat touch it but it gets hotter than warm. LoL As for the electrical system it is a stock 2005 Chevy TrailBlazer. Stock alternator and stock battery. 4ga power and ground with a 100 amp inline fuse.

That box is small too so you could be turning up the gain more to get more out of the sub when really the box should be bigger to be more efficient

bass is set to 0 on the head unit. 5.5 is minimum recomended for the sub. im thinking about building another box however space is limited. I plan on comepting through MECA and want to keep it as close to the top of the rear seat as posible so i dont get put into modified class. I dont play it a full volume ever either (i have a ruptured ear drumb). i just notice when im testing new bass tracks that it gets hot.

i never set gains with a dmm, i set mine with test tones and a meter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Should try and set them by only using your nose.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/sneaky.gif.7189749b3a3f769e8815b47e8ae87f88.gif

just eye balled it
Try setting it with a DMM. It could be your gains are set just a little bit too high and the sub is clipping a bit.

I use this method and it works pretty good lol. Though I can beat on my sub a lot longer when the windows are rolled up -- sub moves a lot more when the windows are down

You're using 4ga to power a 1500? ..and pulling 150a of current through a 100a fuse? 5cf net is just fine for that woofer if the port area is good.

Just turn the gain down a tad until you wanna properly install.
