Maybe they forgot to throw the "X" on there, but I doubt it. About a year ago I talked with a guy who was doing SPL comps out of his Accord with a silver 12 spoked basket SE 15 and a new SE/x 15 in the same box... because of the same T/S parameters of course...

Color of basket effects DEEEEBBEEEEZZZZZZ

like i said, their new stuff isn't horrible, it's just not up with the old. it's the same as the TC argument. they are now made in china, still fantastic woofers, but the old lines were just built better. more durable, better craftsmanship, less mainstream friendly specs.

if you guys think all stuff made in china is crap, look at throwing about 70% of your household items in the trash. this whole idea of "AMERICA BUILDS EM BEST" bull is from the yesteryear of the 50's.

Excursion potential is not just determined by power input, enclosure size also affects it. Just because you will overheat the coils trying to cram a xxx in a tiny box in a compact car's trunk and get 54mm of excursion does not mean the spec is bogus.
As for the coil tearing, the xxx and all other current RE models are derived using a dumax machine. I dont see that you have proven it to be false.

I think on the new xxx that stat is feasibly possible perhaps, but could never happen. not only would the coil and possibly spiders give out with the required power, i don't think the motor has the power to overcome the back pressure in a box to reach 54 mm. it could happen free air perhaps. but i've still never seen any reasonable woofer that has more real world excursion than a lms ultra, at only 38 mm one way, 47 mm xmech

Well now you know of a sub with more excursion potential than an LMS Ultra. The xmax spec on the new XXX is not bogus. I already discussed your concerns over reaching 54mm in my previous reply.

dang the LMS Ultra has "only" 38mm xmax....... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I would love to see a sub hitting 54mm.

BS! Why do you think all the stuff made in the last 10-15 years is junk? Hand tools, power tools, kitchen appliances, TV's, radios, etc. It all lasts less than 10 years these days, where items of the 1980's and earlier lasted 20+ years. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Even Craftsman makes their hand tools in china, they look/feel like cheap Harbor Freight tools now.

Value is why an "antique" or collectable is worth more than when it was new, or even worth more than the new equivalent.

Examples: Cerwin Vega Stroker, almost all US made old school amps (worth more used than equivalent new amps), vintage audio equipment, guitars, amps, etc. Its all worth more because it was built better. Just like there is no comparison between a Used $10 Snap-On ratchet compared to a new HF ratchet, Snap-On will beat it every time.

QC is the important factor.. If you make a good product word will spread. I see it hard to spread in the car audio market without adverticing though.. How many titles does DD hold? How many car audio people have no idea who they are?
DD is nice, but its just not my thing from what ive seen. i competed where my areas Team DD from a shop ran their ish... i feel like they were missing something. not sure what.

That is solely and completely due to consumers driving the price of gear (especially mechanical and electronics) into the gutter. If we weren't so worried about junk being cheap, it would still be built to old standards and cost an arm and a leg with a lifetime warranty. Businesses stopped making money by producing quality yet having to jump into the price wars. That is why the stuff we get is crap, the move to China was the final straw in cutting labor costs, nothing more.

The question isn't so much can PRC make a quality product , because they can make just about anything you want at any grade of production you want, but just like if it is made here, higher QC standards, materials , etc. the price increases , it really comes down to the companys commitment to manufacturing a quality product, and the ones who are trying to meet sales quotes in a very competitive market, it's not very hard to figure out who is who in the market if you are paying attention.

US amps/ RE has become more of a marketing company than anything over the last 5 or so years, that doesn't mean it's still not a good product , it's just business

I was about to buy an RE SE12 over the JLW6. I was advised by a former dealer that RE is now garbage. RE outsourced to Asia. The the build and sound quality have taken a dive. I looked online at US Amps. The woofers have changed significantly in appearance. Is this true? Has RE lost it? Is the dealer just steering me away because they dont sell them anymore?
i have 2 13 inch w6s great price for sale

I had a DD 1515 sub in a 4 cubes @ 36 hz box. Worse sub I've ever owned. Sounded like poo, and it blew off 800 watts RMS. And, their insistence on high tunings is asinine. That was the first and last box I will have ever purposely tuned above 30 hz. What a waste of $80 for box materials and $250 for the garbage sub.

...And then my next sub was a Chinese built RE SE/x 15. What a breathe of fresh air that was!
