hey while im wating to finish up sound deadoning my car i decided to build a box for 4 of my RE 8s so i could have some bump. the box is 2.1^3ft tuned 35hz and has 2 8s on the top and 2 8s on the opposite side of the port. now they sound pretty good. i was very suprised. but the only thing is when in a song you get to some low bass tones the 8s almost sound as if they stop playing. and i have one more problem. when i setup my amp to where its giving out a lot of juice to the subs they start making some horrible sound like they are bottoming out. im powering them right now with a jl 500/1. so is there any way to make the 8s hit the lower notes better and is there a way to turn up the jusice without having them make that horrible sound? cuz if there isnt i might be forced to switch my 18 8s project to some 12s cuz i gotta have them low notes.

i had to switch from my highfonich zx6000 cuz i couldnt tune it enough to make the system play good cuz the jl 500/1 has a lot more settings to tune. could it be maybe cuz i havnt totally sealed the edges of my box with cocking yet. just wook glue "L" brackets and screws

I'd seal the box inside and out first. Then turn down the subsonic filter to the high twenties. Make sure you have the subs wired to the right ohm level as well as the correct polarity(+ and -). Move the box around in your vehicle, I've found that makes a considerable difference on the lower freq. 40hz and lower.

Are you utilizing the bass eq. on the 500/1. If so you might have the boost at a high center freq. and a narrow freq. width. Put the center Freq dial around 40hz with the "Q" dial at 1.1 and then set the DB dial as desired. The DB dial does not work if you have the remote bass knob hooked up.

yea ima use some cocking to get rid of the leaks cuz you can tell that when iget some strong bass you can hear the wood almost make a slapping sound. other than that the box is built good. ill try that and see how it works.

ok so today i sealed up the box and i still have the same problem. i was watching the subs closely and noticed that one sub sucks in farther than the others and makes little dimples around the edges so i switched the polarity on the subs and doing so made a different sub **** in to far. I think it may be the wiring because the way they are hooked up is that all 4 subs have wiring running off the pos and neg termanal and then i have them in sets of 2 ran into one. in other words i have the positive of 2 subs hooked into one wire and the negative of those eubs hooked into one wire. and the same thing with the other set of subs so that i only have 2 sets of pos and neg wires running out instead of 4 sets. thich may have caused me to wire the subs out of phase. now would this cause one to **** in farther than the others?
