Excuse me here... but your box here is neither SQ NOR SPL... its just bad. I'm sorry if you don't understand WHY its bad by DESIGN (NOTHING to do with the ports choked, but that sure as hell doesnt help).
My boxes are LOUD and they sound GOOD.... to say I only build SPL boxes is insanity... flat response, LOUD, tight, clean... hear one and maybe you'll understand.

Read my posts once over again... either you aren't paying attention or your slightly dyslexic - I said sub back port up with the box pushed against the seats is BAD... NOT THE PORT FIRING INTO THE SEAT... I think even YOU know not to do that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you build a box thats not loud, it doesn't automatically make it "sound quality"... sound quality has zilch to do with sound LEVEL... if the box is quiet its quiet - but quiet doesn't automatically mean it sounds good.

I just happen to make boxes that sound GOOD and by proper design get LOUD!

I'm sorry if you don't know how good it a box *can* get, but your more than welcome to buy one from me and find out =)
So why is this a bad design? I'm lost... Why is it bad to have the box against the seat?

Why dont you share that knowledge spkrman, rather than just brag about it. You've told him sub up, ports back, is that the big mystery? CRX style is not a secret, I assume you are talking about more than just that. You keep saying its just a 'bad design', is that in terms of volume, dimensions, port placement, etc etc? Your helpful criticisms are looking more like just criticisms at this point. Why dont you teach us all something here.

port location, box shape relative to port location, its all not favorable.

You want something that flows better... where the air has no choice to go out the port - this box doesn't accomplish that at all.

You also want to load the ports on *something*... preferably the farthest wall from the driver... this box again, doesnt accomplish that.

Basic design principles here fellas //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Its nothing like how i made my friends enclosure for his integra.

Sub back ports on the side.

Basically because i didnt have enough room for them anywhere else //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As stated, excellent craftsmanship. However, the port clearance is a HUGE problem...you need at least 4" clearance...preferable 6-7" clearance. Also, why no flares on the ports? If it's regular 4" PVC...you could easily pick up some 6" flares...they do wonders no harsh noise from severe edges //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

Also, this is an SQ install...and it's ported to 38-39hz?!?!?! WTF is that? SQ I'd tune around 28-32hz.

Still, excellent craftmanship...poor ultimate design. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

top notch craftsmanship //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

maybe try using brad nails instead of the counter-sunk screws to save time/materials filling holes...

it's a vented box so i don't think all those different sealants were actually necessary.

Ports need at least the pipe's diameter in clearance. I recommend using 90 degree PVC elbows to extend the ports horizontally.

All in all your assembly is good

7 outta 10

I couldnt have said it better than audioholic

Im not sure when this thread turned into a fight, laff.

If you feel the need to protect your business by insulting people, instead of helping people... then so be it.

I said Rate My Box, not b1tch about my box like you're my grandmother.

Spkrman,

My 2 Type-R's will be in a slot ported box, approx 2.8cuft each, as my tag says, could you recommend which direction the port and sub should be facing in a Ford Explorer Sport Trac, where the back seat WAS...? This is one of those 1/2 truck looking things, so the sub is actually right behind you...

Im being serious too, I really would like your input on this...

I was thinking to face both forward, but I can face upward as well...

The box can also be bigger, probably close to 3cuft, which would you recommend being better in terms of overall sound, but more on the SPL side of things.

Thanks.
