Explorer sport track. Subs and port facing up...
Ya, Thats actually how I started to build this box.

I will post pics of this enclosure too, also give specs, etc... Not sure why its a secret to people how to make a certain sub sound good...

This will be the hardest enclosure IVE built to date... I can post some of the past enclosures ive made as well..

Here's one...

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/28391/2

This one will be slot ported, facing the roof, amps mounted on the front with plexi cover, and fans, plexi on the sides of the enclosure... should be sweet.

My sub, and amp should be here tuesday wednesday, so I better get crackin //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I couldnt have said it better than audioholic
Im not sure when this thread turned into a fight, laff.

If you feel the need to protect your business by insulting people, instead of helping people... then so be it.

I said Rate My Box, not b1tch about my box like you're my grandmother.
Your boxes aren't exactly a threat //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Why do you feel the need for me to give out everything I have learned over the years?

Spkrman,
My 2 Type-R's will be in a slot ported box, approx 2.8cuft each, as my tag says, could you recommend which direction the port and sub should be facing in a Ford Explorer Sport Trac, where the back seat WAS...? This is one of those 1/2 truck looking things, so the sub is actually right behind you...

Im being serious too, I really would like your input on this...

I was thinking to face both forward, but I can face upward as well...

The box can also be bigger, probably close to 3cuft, which would you recommend being better in terms of overall sound, but more on the SPL side of things.

Thanks.
the box is too big.

sub forward port up, or sub up port back... most likely sub up port back to get loud @ the headrest, if I remember that car you have *alot* of height, and porting up that high won't do the headrest very well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

port location, box shape relative to port location, its all not favorable.
You want something that flows better... where the air has no choice to go out the port - this box doesn't accomplish that at all.

You also want to load the ports on *something*... preferably the farthest wall from the driver... this box again, doesnt accomplish that.

Basic design principles here fellas //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Uhmm... What other choice does the air have but to exit the ports? Everywhere else is sealed 100%... I dont understand your logic here. Air will go anywhere it CAN go.. and the ONLY place it can go in this enclosure is out the ports.

He is on his way as we speak, so we will have the big test in a couple hours for sure... I still have to install T-Nuts, and run the wiring...

Time will tell... afterall, its what it sounds like to the user that is most important.

In regards to my setup... I cant face anything to the rear because of how the box will be made... so the only choices are out the front or top... which is recommended overall?

Also, what is the optimal enclosure size for the 12" Type R, running at 1000W RMS (MRD-M1005)?

These are the only 2 questions i need answered... If you could give me a hand that would be great.

Give away everything? lol Nobody has asked for that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif How about just explain yourself when you criticize someone/something? I think that's fair.

Fire the ports up if you cant go rear.
Spkrman,

Sub and Port Up?

BTW, I am in no way trying to fight with spkrman everyone... Im sure he is very good at what he does, and maybe he was a lil harsh at first, but he's even helped me out in regards to box building... So lets just relax //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif The box is done, and thank you all for your input... it will all be taken into considerations for this box, and the next 10 after that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

A word of advise for Spkrman as well might be that not everyone here is out to sell the baddest box, or win the competitions... I'm not. Some of us just want to hear our equipment at its finest, after all we all dished out good money to buy what we've bought... So instead of hoarding your knowledge on these issues, share, you will be helping out a lot of people that do not have the time or know how to make thier equipment as good as others, but deserve to hear it just as they do.

Peace.

The box is done... It was wired up (TEMPORARILY) as per the pics... and I PROMISE you when the owner gets home he will tell you all that having the port 1.5" away couldnt make much of a difference.... Its clean, its POWERFULL, and its really really loud... He had 2 sealed Power HX2's in there when he got here, and he himself has noted that this single 15" in the "POOR BOX DESIGN" BLOWS them out of the water.

Here are the "TEST PICS" ... and the pics of his door speakers... one he recieves his Audison amps late next week, its time to do some more installing.

I also have a video... but its quite short, cause my camera died... cant really hear the full effect of the sub regardless, when it goes low, it sounds like *** on camera... in person, its peircing.

The owner of this equipment has been reading this thread the whole time, seeing what people thought of the box he had made for him... He, from his own mouth " I do not see how anything could make this better, its awesome"

So, to conclude....

The owner is happy, im happy.

The end.

But what you dont realize is that humans are meters of thier own, and if it sounds perfect to them, no digital contraption is going to change that view.

Not everyone is here to do 170db.
