Rainbow Vanadium Sub Enclosure Volume?

I posted this in the Subwoofer forum a couple of days ago but feel it may have a better chance for a response here.

Enjoyed reading the post on the 12" Profi's!
I have two 8" Vandium subs which I had hoped to put in the rear passenger footwells to compliment a 4" Profi set upfront.

However, the spec sheet that came with them gives these sealed specs:

Purist 1.3 cft

Normal .7 cft

SPL .39 cft

I listen mainly to classical and jazz so the SPL is out.

On the Rainbow site it gives minimum sealed as .9 cft, but I think that is switched with the spec for the 10" which is listed as .56 cft.

Anyway, I had hoped to be able to use smaller enclosures, more in the range of .4 cft, for the rear footwells.

I don't know if either of our resident Rainbow gurus has had any experience with an 8" Vanadium in a sealed enclosure and would be able to comment?

TIA!

There are probably only two people round here that can answer your questions: 3.5Max (a user) and 6spd (a dealer)....no not drugs silly :p

Aren't you concerned about something puncturing the cones on those. IME the Vanadium cone is pretty delicate.

Ive done quite a few of them. From .34 to 1cf. Honestly for snappiness you would want to be somewhere in the .6 realm. Im not sure how theyre referencing .4 as "SPL" as it loses no characteristics to the larger enclosures and actually has a bit Less movement. All of them will play quite loud, and none have them have lost accuracy.

This applies to both the older and newer versions of the driver.

What size enclosure is Ravi's 10" ? Its the older model, but it pounds off like 200rms...

Thanks for the quick reply!

I questioned the figures given by Rainbow after having seen the figures for the 10" Vanadium I put in the truck. A couple of the enclosures would be smaller than the sub itself. I ended up using a .5 cft enclosure with polyfill for the truck, sounds like it should be larger.

If I only use one 8" sub, I can easily get .65 cft in a down-firing configuration using the front passenger footwell.

I've attached scans (excuse the quality) of the Rainbow spec sheets that came with the subs.

If you don't mind, I have a follow-up.

After doing some calculations, I came up with two configurations using the front footwell. Not sure which might be better to try.

1. 15x16x7 downfiring enclosure, 3.5" legs raising the enclosure off the floor, @ .63 cft.

2. 15x15x10 forward firing, firewall 10" away from sub, @ .9 cft.

Any recommendations greatly appreciate.
