Rainbow Profi .... 6.5 comp set .... My impressions ....

Thanks to a selfless act by Skier , I was able to hear the Rainbow Profi's today. I thought I'd share my opinions of them .....

These are among the very best car speakers I have heard ! They were installed in the doors , with the tweeters about 10" above the mid. Skier had just installed them recently , and had admittedly not started tuning the system as of yet. They still sounded good.

Overall , I would say they are somewhat warm , with GREAT midbass punch and extension. While not the ultimate in terms of resolution , they still are better than most speakers available , and do NOT get congested at high volumes .... Speaking of high volume , they will play REAL DARN LOUD !!!!

The tweeter impressed me the most. Detailed but always smooth , and VERY natural sounding , even when pushed hard.

I was blown away with how natural they sounded , as coloration was not noticed by my ears.

I would SERIOUSLY place these at the head of a very short list , of component sets I would want in my car.

what is resolution?

I like agressive music (lil jon) what is the coponets for me?

There's a glossary Sticky about audio terms , and resolution can be found explained there.

I've heard better resolution with Utopias , Dynaudio , and Alpine F1 .... but we're talking splitting hairs now .....

The Profis would be great for agressive music in my opinion , due to their lack of harshness and midbass strength ....

How much does a set of these usually run for? My RE RE comps are kinda dissapointing me. Harsh highs and not the best mids(of course my doors need some work too-sound deadening and sealing)

profi's are in the $550 range- my recommendation is if you want same performance-give or take0- try the Arc Audio ACS (made by Rainbow) large silk dome, nice kick out of midbass- and can be had in the ~$350 range

The HD's have more artificial sounding midbass, but the Cal 25 domes are on another level

a particular timbre of sound, not true to the perceived sound of a recording

But keep in mind coloration can come from the vehicle itself (enclosure and vehicle resonances and reflections can add coloration)
