Rainbow CMX265 Kicks and Required AMP?

First off, this is my first post. Tried search and didnt really find anything on this particular question. If this needs to be in another forum (maybe the amp forum?) can a mod please move it. I lurked for a few weeks reading on speaker recommendations and decided on the Rainbow CMX265 Kicks.

Well, I read the install instructions and it mentioned that i "have" to use an amp with a low-pass set at 80 or so hertz. i was only planning on running them off my stock amp until sometime next year when i would get a rear set and run both the front and rear off of a 300x4 or something like that. I do not think i can set the low-pass on my stock amp.

So, how important is an amp with a low-pass?

and is a 300x4 amp a good selection for 2 pairs of CMX265kicks (front and rear)?

This is for a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser, btw

You need to high-pass them, not low-pass. You can get an amp with electronic crossover (most amps have this), or upgrade your headunit to one that has it built in, or you can add an electronic crossover bewteen the headunit and amp, or you can use some inline filters. You can use something like this:

What kind of power does the stock amp put out? You may want to upgrade the amp sooner rather than later, depending on its capabilities.

After you get the front set going, I would concentrate on adding a subwoofer and amp, rather than another set of components for the rear.

Thanks for the reply. If i dont pick up an amp, I will try these. So I will wire these between my stock amp and the crossovers that came with the components, correct?

correct.

If I were you, I would get another amp. Stock amps don't usually give out that much power and these cmx kicks sound a lot better with more power. I have mine at 75watts right now, but I tried it with 150 and everything just sounded better. The sound was much fuller and wider. There's a few people on here that were giving it 200watts and they liked it a lot.

^ agreed. Feed those CMX's between 150-200w rms each.

ok then. Can anyone recommend an amp that would be a good compliment to the CMX 265 kicks and be able to potentially run 2 pairs (both front and rear)?

i do have a size restraint. I would like to keep it under my passenger seat. i do not have dimensions yet, but i do have pictures:

as for price, cheaper is always better, but i will pay for a quality product if it is worth it. i dont want to spend the money on quality speakers and then get a crappy amp.

Edit: i just went out for a quick measure...i only have like 12" x 10" for an amp at that position

The Alpine PDX is a solid amp with a small footprint. I have powered many CMX sets with it and the PDX will make the CMX's perform.

Im confused about the wiring now. It seems the stock HU gets its power and a few other things from the stock amp. Heres a quote from someone who has wired the above aftermarket amp with the stock HU:

"Anyway, I have all the wiring sorted out at the amp. It turns out that on a 2000, there is a 14-pin and a 16-pin clip. the 14 pin is for the signal from the headunit to the amp along w/ the dimmer, amp turn on lead, and some other stuff. The 16 pin has larger gauge wire and has the power for the HU and amp from the fuse block, the main grounds for each, & all the wiring from the amp out to the speakers.

 

The most interesting thing about the whole thing was that the speaker leads from the Head Unit down to the amp was 5 wires - 4 seperate positive leads and a common ground. That's the thing that threw me the most."

Will i still be able to get this wired. I absolutely can not afford both an amp and a headunit right now and would like to keep the stock one for now.

and does that above Alpine PDX-4.150 have an adjustable high-pass?

u will love them cmxs. like everyone else is saying, 100-175 watts on them will make ur ears ***.
