I'm still waiting on rubbing compound. More pic's will come when I get that..

The wetsanding is working some of the orange peel down, mine looked like that when I started wetsanding, but I didn't have that much orange peel. I sanded till the entire box was white with no black showing, this indicated that the paint was level to the touch and eye, but I had hella layers of paint and my paint was lacquer too so it sands differently. Anyways I'm sure once you buff the hell out of it with some rubbing compound and then poish it with some wax it should look very shinny. Just be carefull not to sand it down too much //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ok guys, here are some more pics. I am making some progress as you will see. The first 5 pic's are all second coat. You can see that they still need a lot of work but are slowly getting better... After the first 5 pics you will see the result of close to an hour's worth of sanding with 2500 grit paper. I went into town and picked up some 2500 and some rubbing compound and all I have to say is WOW!!! I'll stop talking and let the pictures explain for them selves.

I'm not done, not by a long shot! I still need to work on the top some more plus I have all the sides yet to do. I still even have some painting but, that will all happen later. This project will probably take another 2 weeks or so to finish depending on how much I work on it.

Let me know what you guys think of my progess so far...

Any more pics of the above box imacomputer?
Yea, yea, yea... I know that your enclosure looks better but I also understand that the camera is focused on the house which makes the imperfections harder to notice. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif It's the same thing with mine as well. I have a bunch of pictures of the enclosure but most of them **** or look worse than it does in real life. This is one that turned out decent and is a better representation of what it actually looks like:

Did you use a rattle can or a paint sprayer?? Either way nice looking results...Jon
I used a latex based gloss black enamel, which was terrible, and then I painted polyurethane on it. I'm pretty sure the brush put a lot of dirt and shit onto it but the final result is pretty nice. I don't have the orange peel effect that you get with spray cans but I had my own problems. Next time, I'm going to brush the polyurethane on with a foam brush and for the final layer, I will mix it with some paint thinner and put it on real thin with a cloth.

I'm defintely going to buy some rubbing compound and see how that does on the top of my enclosure. Your results look pretty nice!

im gonna have to say im doin the same thing to my box..

I saw your box first "kickerlivinloud" and thought it was pritty amazing.

Then i heard about SHiZNiLTi's box and i was like wtf.. That is sick. so i decited to do it on a test piece of wood to see if i could do it myself. Im in the process of my test and im using birch wood on my box. If it goes all well im gonna do it to my real box... Will birch wood have a better result??

I have to say good work on both of your boxes..

Thanks for the ideas too.

Im hoping to put up a work log of my box construction as well as the painting of my box..

Immacomputer - that box looks great!

Jon - looking really nice, sweet pics - I like the angles of them!

I'm gonna try to paint and wetsand my 7 cuft box for my 18" BTL in 2 days and 3 nights. It's gonna be a beyatch, but I think I can do it.

(1) gallon of sandable brush on white primer for wood

(1) gallon of sandable brush on glossy black lacquer for wood

(1) 14,000 rpm powersander

(1) 12oz. 3M buffing compound

(1) 12oz. Meguires Gold Class wax

(8) 300grit for primer

(8) 1500grit for lacquer

All I gotta do is spend an hour on rounding the edges over and get all the cut edges and imperfections covered with lots of sandable wood filler paste before I start my process.

I will start Friday night and try to use as much as I can of 1 gallon's worth of brush on fast drying white primer for wood and apply (1) coat per hour from 6pm till 2am for a total of (8) coats!

I will then let it dry under heat lamps with a low rpm fan on it overnight and till 11am the next morning. I will then powersand the hell outta the primered box for about 1-2 hours getting it to a silky smooth finish with no visable imperfections.

At 1pm Saturday I will begin brushing on the Black Lacquer doing (1) coat every hour from 1pm till 9pm for a total of 8 coats! I will then let it dry under heat lamps on it overnight and till 9pm on Sunday night for a total of 24 hours cure time. At this point the wetsanding will take place from 9pm till 12pm, by this time the 3 hours of powerwetsanding should be enough, i will then use an orbital buffer with 3m buffing compund to bring out the shine, then use the orbital with mxguires gold class to get this big 7cuft box looking hella sexy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

This will all take place next weekend hopefully.

Sounds like a plan shiz!! Looking forward to seeing results!

Well I spend another 2+ hours wet sanding with little to no result. There are lots of small pits in the paint which are taking for freaken ever to sand out. I switched back to 1500 and that sped this up a little but but barely any. Its quite depressing with all this work and little to no result to show for it. I've also come to the conclusion that putting the rubbing compound on was a mistake!!! I had gotten excited and put it on yesterday and now see that, that was a mistake. I haven't taken any pictures b/c there just isn't really anything worth taking. I'll put some more hours of wet sanding in later today. Hopefully I will start to get some results...

Jon

Well deffenetly screwed up the box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif I'm pretty sure putting the rubbing compound on is what screwed me. I think I should be able to put more layers of paint back on it and just sand it again. If I do that, I will have a good smooth base to work from. Words can't describe how smooth it feels right now but it just looks like total crap. I'll let you all see for yourself...

I think repainting the box is my best bet, even though I really don't want to. The whole box does need more paint plus I burned through the paint in a couple places. I will be repainting tomorrow I guess. I'm thinking this will be the best bet...

Pic's will follow as I start back over again...
