Quick Question

Hi

I just got home from getting my car serviced and while there they said that my battery needed to be replaced. I just have some regular True Start battery or something (it came with the car). I know that this type of battery is not ideal for car audio, but I'm only pushing 1,000 RMS at the MAX, probably more around 800 or so.

At night with my headlights on and my A/C on I don't have dimming.

Is my battery just old or am I pulling too much current? Would another regular car battery be good or should I get a red top or something?

Thanks.

Oh yeah the guy there said that I should get a cap when I told him I had some car audio in there, this is where I lost a little faith in the shop.

Edit: They printed me off this report here is the information:

Voltage: 13.01

Measured: 454 CCA

Rated: 530 CCA

Temperature: 160 F

Edit #2: What should a battery voltage be?

Do red's and yellow's normally fit in a regular battery slot? It probably depends on the car.

Can these be bought from Autozone or the like or is online better?

That's a fair enough assessment. Probably would be the best thing to do due to not knowing the exact age of the battery. However, if you have no ill effects, don't notice anything wrong, why fix what's not broke?

Again I want to stress replacing is probably the smartest/best thing to do in this situation, just so you don't get stranded somewhere next month saying to yourself, "that dick on ca.com said I shouldn't replace it now look what happened" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Good luck on your decision, I have a optima yellow top under my hood and would recommend it.

Lol. Stranded on the side of the road would be terrible. I figured that the shop just might be trying to get me to buy their battery. Since I have not noticed any problems I guess I should be ok.

I was kind of unsure about the CCA and if the drop mattered.

Eh, if thats the case I would just leave it be and keep an eye on how your car starts each morning. Longer or delayed starts may point to the battery.
