quick help for a newb

its a long story but..I upgraded my power wire from 8 awg to 4 awg, the the type r sub I have was pretty loud, I'm running it on a AP1500 and about a month after it is about half as loud as when I first put the new wire in. I checked my amp wires and everything and nothing seemed to be wrong. But I took my headunit out and behind it the two green wires that connect had come apart, I put them back together and now when I put my volume up and my amp shut off and so did my headunit. Can anyone tell me what the hell is going on?

Sounds like you have wires mixed up... if you have any good buddies that know audio well see if they would check it out for you just to be sure everything is right before something messes up on you. (or a audio shop could check it out)

Just a green wire coming from behind the hu to the stock wire..everything worked fine it just randomly was just not as loud one day and now that I reconnected that wire when I put it to the normal vol level with a cd the hu goes off and the unprotected light goes on on my amp. But its still not loud..ill take a pic and post it so you guys can see

pics are a must. Sort of hard to fallow what wire your talking about.

If I'm reading it right the green wire your referring to is just a speaker wire for your mids/highs. Should have nothing to do with your subwoofer output. Now with the protect light coming on, that could be many issues. Do you have a DMM by chance?
