question...?

I bought a 2-ohm jl audio w3v3, but I'm retarded and thought I got a 4-ohm w3v3 so I bought an amp that puts out 400 watts at 4 ohms and 600 watts at 2 ohms (the sub is 500 watts RMS).

So if the amp can put out 600 watts and the sub can only take 500 will there not be a problem as long as I keep the gains low?

I know it probably sounds like a stupid question and I think I know the answer, but I just want a little insurance before I mess something up. Thanks.

Digital multimeter.

volts = sqrt (watts x ohms)

so

volts = sqrt (500 x 2)

volts = sqrt 1000

volts = 36.2

So, play a -6db, 40hz sine wave at 3/4 volume, and plug the dmm into your amps outputs (sub disconnected) and adjust the gain until your DMM shows 36.2VAC.
