question with switching headunits

say if you wanted to switch headunits, can you just slide it out, take out the black thing that connects to the headunit itself and just put it in the new one? keep the same wiring harness so you dont have to rewire the headunit to the cars wiring harness

im swaping headunits with someone and it fits in perfectly, even has the same fuse 10 amp fuse holder, but when i switch the car on, the headunit comes on but wont do anything,

im thinkin im gonna have to go ahead and cut the harness off and hard wire

yeah you will have to re-wire your harness, just because many HU's have different pin-outs
